I'd love to say this cheered me up, but of course it didn't. RW's outlook is the antithesis of optimism, which is not to say it isn't focussed and accurate. But I don't know whether it touches the essence of Zen, because I am not sure what that is really. Maybe having your drawing room full of rocks? Does it touch the essence of Bikes? Maybe not. The biker may ride side by side with death or paralysis for every mile he travels, but ne never the less travels those miles with exhilaration, with community, with a sense of one-ness with the world, and with fun. And also, don't Americans go on about themselves? The ones that love the corporate establishment and the ones who hate it can sound much the same to an outsider. Even one that learned the language.I think maybe less Zen, more Bike in future. How did you escape your certain fate? Or maybe, why?

The comic that will make Spike famous is Templar Arizona. The comic that made me willing to read anything she ever does is Sparkneedle.
You, dear reader, are very lucky, because you can now read Sparkneedle from start to (current) finish, all for free right here on WCN. I had to read it a page at a time with my Girlamatic subscription. But I'm not bitter.
In Sparkneedle, you'll see Spike's trademark flowing brushwork at its most indulgent, her storytelling at its most stripped down (it's a silent comic, after all), and her creativity at its most bizzare (long live the mudmen!). Those are very, very good things. You'll also see the excellent color work of her husband, Matt Sheridan, who is slowly finishing the entire first series (I can't wait to see what the finale looks like in color).
Sparkneedle was proof that Spike knows how to make a smart comic, long before Templar Arizona. Read the first, and you'll know why the later has everyone watching.

Very different look. The art reminds of the Crow and Grendel.
Very intriguing comic.. held my interest better than others and the awesome combo of photos and drawings is stellar and wierd. Gives the comic a strange surreal mood. I love it. Keep it up.
