Cheryl's character was more or less created because I felt the need to write "volleyball" comics for Rachel, but didn't have anything to draw on. The idea of someone who's only on the team to improve her chances at college seemed interesting, and I felt that I would enjoy using the character in future comics. I would guess that most prep school students have a tendency to act like Cheryl at times.
