The son of Ashton Soul and a Prussian brewer/tavernkeeper's daughter, Konrad Hartmann was born in the early 1700s and became a Prussian mercenary as well as an expert hunter.

After his hand was destroyed in a military action, his right hand was replaced with a metal stump, and he found, over time, that the nanites in his blood and DNA gave him control over that metal...allowing him to reshape the metal at his own will---transforming into a bayonet, a hook, and even a gun or mini-cannon at will. Oddly enough, it will not form a good prosthetic hand--it's not sure if it's some limitation of the metal or some sort of mental block by Konrad. Contacted by his father, Konrad became the sergeant-at-arms of the Command and its successor, the Next Level.

Personally he is known for his daredevil antics and personal fearlessness to the point of foolhardiness. He regards Soul as both his father and his commander, and his allegiance to Soul is complete and unquestioning.

His wife left him in the mid-1700s, for another man, after cheating on him for years. It somewhat embittered him towards other women, his love life devolving to brief relationships without a lot of intimacy. The one thing he IS afraid of is losing his heart again, only to be betrayed.
