Jurgen Nielsen was the owner of a Swedish fishing fleet and a boat captain in his own right in the 19th century. One night, he and some friends and relatives disappeared, and later reappeared two weeks later. They had been kidnapped and experimented on by the Zha'Tahn, gaining powers, but had escaped together under Jurgen's leadership.

Jurgen's ability was to increase or decrease velocity among molecules, but solids, with their heavy and relatively unyielding molecular bonds, were almost impossible for him to manipulate. Gases, such as air, were much, more easier. He would increase winds to hurricane or tornado speeds, or calm fierce winds to almost nothing. He could create a relatively calm "bubble" around himself, like the eye of a hurricane, even when increasing winds around him.

He has a gliding cape he can hook to his uniform, to use the winds to glide on. His special uniform is to guard against accidental windburn, and he has a ski-mask like hood which he can also wear to protect his face.

To a lesser extent he can control liquids, which have deeper molecular bonds than gases, but not so deep as solids. He can make waves increase or decrease, for instance, but it's more of a strain for him than manipulating gases.

Jurgen and his fellow escapees were unaware of the Command, the British-Empire based band of secretive superhumans formed by Soul, and formed their own secret group, the Superiors. They also actively searched for other superhumans, mostly in Nordic and Germanic lands. This went on for a decade, until the two groups met.

It was one of their number who discovered the Command first. The newly-inducted Vigilant let her in, but she was later killed by the Command, which led to a clash between the two groups. Deciding the fighting was futile, especially in the face of the common threat of the Zha'Tahn, the Command and the Superiors merged, into the group called the Next Order. (The fact that the Command's Ageless could infinitely prolong their lives was a strong incentive for the Superiors to join with the Command. The Superiors were much less military-minded than the Command, just wanting to live their lives in peace, if possible.)

Jurgen Neilsen currently poses as a descendent of the 19th century ship fleet owner. While still owning several fishing fleets, he is also Raven Corporations Chief Financial Officer, working directly with Soul. He's married at least twice. Once to the mother of his two children, Katrina and Jan, who are second-generation Next Levellers, having inherited the Zha'Tahn nanites from their father, but the nanites reacting differently with them, giving them differing abilities.

After his first wife died, he has, to his children's disgust, married a pretty young ski instructor as a trophy wife, but the marriage seems to be in trouble, since the two are so different in their needs and wants. Back to the Cast Page
