Sabum and his Midwest Martial Arts (MMA) School serve as the rival school to the Calihan's School within their comunity.

The Calihans first colide with Sabum and the O'Keefe brothers in an Invitational tournament that Rex hastily signed them up for.

Apparently Sabum and Sensei go "way back" there also seems to be some kind of rivalry there.
