Actually, Spielberg had 3 scripts he was pitching. The producers turned down the dramatic re-telling of "Chicken Little", and told Spielberg they would greenlight either the one about the dinosaurs, or the ugly alien. "Emo hen? Oh, pterodon nod or 'E.T. phone home'." (I know, it's a stretch.)
