The shop owner should have been drawn as more cartoony. 

This is vaguely based on a bad experience with a comic shop owner in Des Moines in the early '80s.

Not to be confused with another bad experience in a comic shop in Des Moines in the early '90s....

So anyway, Harry X. Hippie from the Fanboy Cartoons and Helmut Geldt (the Martian Market Komics & Kollectables proprietor in Sci Fi Guy!) are both based on the same a bit thick and surly Comic Shop owner in the middle of Iowa way back in the day.....
