ACT II now running at www.paradigmshiftmanga.com
So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Aaand there he is...
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: wonder what will happen if the 'beast' in him gets out in a place like this though...
Dan Pajor (thepageturner) says: ^ A new answer to capital punishment?
Peter Scott (peterc) says: Lunch
Jeff Gum (sandgate) says: I smell sitcom.
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: Who wants to bet that the new guy in the cell block is going to tell him to stop hogging the seat, and end up denting the cell bars for his trouble? ;)
Dan Pajor (thepageturner) says: I hope I'm not jumping the gun by assuming He's the second werecatwolf. It's hard taking it one page at a time, after all.
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says:

I think that's been pretty clearly spelled out, yes. He can just tall fences, outrun a police car, was seen at the first crime scene, is looking for kate, has the FBI after him...

Holy crap, now that I think about it, Dirk didn't settle for subtlety.

jesse burton (theburton) says: Maybe he is making it seem so obvious for a plot twist! Like snape being evil in Harry Pothead.
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: The Harry Potter books were ambiguous, though... most of the reader's impressions of Snape were via Harry's very biased opinions. Harry was always willing to chalk anything the man did up to sinister intent! There's not a lot of ambiguity here... this guy is superhuman at the very least, and his connections with the incidents (from the reader's point of view, if not the detectives) are pretty clearly laid out. And lets not forget his presence in Kate's dreams...
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: I wonder if Kate will show her partner her 'bullet wound' now that its all healed in less then a week.
Owl Who says South (owlsayssouth) says:

nah. you cant reviel freaky weird stuff to people who aren't freaky weird as well. He'll have to shoot lightning from his eyes, or fireballs from his arse before she'll show him the not-there bullet wound. and i could swear it healed up in a day, not a week.

no comment on potter.

Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says: Gonna be a little late on this one.  Have a big announcement brewing.  More tomorrow.
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says:

at Martin Warner: probably but I am not sure whether they are on day three or four so I went with a week to be on the safe side...

At Dirk: are you expecting a little bundle of joy perchance? Anywho hope to see what you do for the next page.

Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says:

This is Day Three.

And, no, no kids on the way, thankfully.  Now is not the time, yet. Something else, but equally life-changing.

Peter Scott (peterc) says: Only life changing thing I can think of that's equally life changing is being bitten by a werewolf, or worse a werewyf. Your not going to become one of those writers who won't write abut something until they've done it are you.
Steve Ford (sford) says:

Equally life-changing as having a kid?  Let's see ... detonating a 100 megaton nuclear bomb in your underpants.  Revealing that you are Hitler's clone.  Inventing ice-9.

Nope.  Those still aren't as major as trying to raise an ungrateful snot-nosed little punk.  (Not that I'm bitter...)

So TELL us already!

jesse burton (theburton) says:

Yes, tell us!

whats ice-9 btw?

Ian Morrison (starstriker) says:

While I forget which author or book it was, Ice-9 is a fictional element, a single molecule that could bring about armageddon. Anything it touched also turned into Ice-9, which means that the spread will become progressively faster.

That's just off memory. For more information, Wikipedia is your friend!

Ian Morrison (starstriker) says:

It'd appear I was off as far as details go, though not the intent.

Ian Morrison (starstriker) says:

...I mean, jeez, come ON. You only got shot in the leg! Weeeeeak!

It's a good thing Kate's sarcasm is so amusing, since it's about half of what comes out of her mouth.

Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says:

Hey, she *walked* out of the ER.  Obviously it was just a scratch.

BTW, read the blog for some important news.

Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says:

Ooo. Captain Hughes has his game face on.

It figgers that South Side Duo are Sox fans. You'll be able to find a conclave of Cub fans in Boston. People think the Stonecutters secretly rule the world, but really it's the global network of Cubs fans.

Congrats to Emily on the new job!

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

They defiently respect each other.

Dan Pajor (thepageturner) says: Go Sox!
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says:

Pah, that just means she's tougher than he is. ;)

Good luck with the move, Dirk! Make sure you take plenty of reference pictures before you leave, the attention to scene detail is one of the highlights of this comic!

Marc K (mechatron) says: Cap'n looks pissed.
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says:

Eh, that's not so much "pissed" as "I have work for you".

Which, if you think about it, is a heck of a lot more ominous.

jesse burton (theburton) says: i really like that bald guy in the first window. he is awesome
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

Kate is probally a Cubs fan as well .

 Good luck with the move

Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says:

Thanks, folks.  I'm looking at my schedule and there is a distinct chance I may need to put things on hold sooner than I had hoped.

I'm going off on a week-long apartment hunt at the end of next week, and if I want to keep the comic updating on time, I would have to complete 3 comic pages next week in order to keep up.  With all the client work I'm getting lately, that doesn't seem very likely.  It might be best for me to cut my losses, take March off completely, and use my spare time to get some scripting and planning finished instead of trying to churn out artwork while dealing with all the pre-moving stuff, and closing out my client work.

I'm going to see how the weekend goes, and give you an answer next week.

Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: (dun dun dun)
Dennis Lee (dennismlee) says: I think Dirk drew a picture somewhere of Kate in Cubs gear, so yes, I'd say she is. Go Cubs! I'm so glad spring training is finally here...
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: Dirk, where's this update you promised us? ;)
Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says:

Okay, there's no way I'm going to get anything up, now.  It was a mad dash to the end of the weekend finishing client work, and I'm going to be getting on a plane to the East Coast at 4am tomorrow morning.

Sorry, guys, but the best you'll get is maybe a blog post at this point.  Things are happening too fast for me to keep up.

Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: eh no worries there Dirk I'm pretty sure we ALL won't have mental breakdowns from you not updating... Hope next week goes better for you (( however you want better to be ))
Andrew Sumner (locus) says: :: has a mental breakdown ::
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

It happens Dirk  There not fun either.  I play a really vilonet Video game to relieve some stress or I train extra hard that day to tire myself out.

Hope next week goes better as well.  Take a lot of Honey Roasted Peanuts that they offer on the plane, Watch a lot of UFC and catch that Movie Never Back Down.  If not that watch The bank Job.  Great movies that make you think.

Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says: I am back from the trip. We've found an apartment, and met a few friends. It looks very promising. I'll give a more complete update when I'm caught up and able.
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: heheh no worries and enjoy ther Dirk. I personally think that you deserve a break after what 've seen of this Comic to date!
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says:

I'm torn between agreeing and greedily demanding the next page.

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: Take you time man all great things in life took time to create.  Congrates on the new appartment
Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says: WOOHOO!!! Welcome back!
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: yeah its back
So It Begins (soitbegins) says:

Dun-duddle-un-dun-dun-dunnn! It's back!
Anton Schleef (razmoudah) says:

It's Alive!

Now, to conquer the World!

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

I just relized something.  Kate's bangs are her best selling feature on her Makes her look more Deviant and attrative. Whoaa

I eonder what the FBI have in those suitcases.  Maybe there trying to bribe the Police chief with Money

Marc K (mechatron) says: Busted!
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

I really don't think it's Kate to be honest.

Awsome job with the detail and background and whole storyline.  it flows toghter and everything is extrimally detailed.  That had to took a long time ti just draw the magled body itself.

So It Begins (soitbegins) says:

So It Begins (soitbegins) says: But cool.
Anton Schleef (razmoudah) says: Don't you feel sorry for the poor Medical Examiner?  She has to delicately play around with that body looking for any potentially useful evidence.
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

She's used to it by now I'm sure she had worse

Rockphed (rockphed) says: Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says:

It figgers that South Side Duo are Sox fans. You'll be able to find a conclave of Cub fans in Boston. People think the Stonecutters secretly rule the world, but really it's the global network of Cubs fans.

Have you forgotten about the Chicago White Sox who are in the American League as opposed to the National League's Chicago Cubs.  Furthermore, the White Sox play on the South Side, and that shirt is much closer  to a White Sox uniform (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Sox) than a Red Sox Uniform(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_sox).

Marc K (mechatron) says: I love her expression in the fourth panel.
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says:

"Thanks for the help, guys! Oh, and by the way, you kind of cocked up our case." :P

Awesome page, as always, Dirk! Only thing that stands out to me is the last panel... the agent's right hand has some abnormally long looking fingers!

So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Ouch.
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

Good old FBI first they thank you then they throw dirt in your eye and insist on lecturing you.  I hope Kate takes their head off

Pete (westrider) says: Man, over the hiatus, I forgot how cool Kate's hair is. Glad to have ya back.
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: I agree Kate's hair rocks especially her bangs
JackAce (jackace) says:

Do these Feds know that Angent Xiang is also in contact with Kate and Mike?

Would they even know who Xiang is?

Ian Morrison (starstriker) says:

That's... a good question.

Dirk, this "once a week" thing is going to drive us to insanity! :D

Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says: Kate, they are so about to piss you off.
JackAce (jackace) says:

I think we all know what the answer to that last question will be.

And Kate is quite smart enough to know as well.

She's just asking to piss the Feds off...

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: Good old FBI. Always thinking there better than the cops.   Mike Looks like he is about to loose it judging by the way he is sitting.
Cindy Franklin (ryouko) says: Or else he's getting ready to restrain Kate, if need be.
So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Something here smells worse than the garbage can outside the fish market. Could it be that...
Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says: Brilliant - the feds could not have chosen a better way to make allies of two such incompatible teams :-)
JackAce (jackace) says:

And any outburst on Kate's part will only prove the Feds' point and give then all the more reason not to allow her or any of her fellow cops to keep working on this case.

Not that that would stop her in any way, though...

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

"And no Itchy trigger fingers" I liek that one.

After telling them not to help out and not be involved and after they did all the hard stuff The Feds want to come in and steal the show. And then thank them for helping.  I hope Kate puts an cap in there #$$ if you know what I mean

So It Begins (soitbegins) says: This smells.
JackAce (jackace) says:

OK, that answers half of my question from two pges ago. These guys don't know (or don't admit to knowing) who Xiang is...

Now the question becomes: Based on their ans Xiang's position, should they know who he is?

I'm not sure just how big an organization the FBI really is.

But I have this gut feeling that Xiang might not actually be an FBI agent...

Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: That is a remarkable amount of restraint on Kate's part.
Robert Frazer (robertfrazer) says:

"But I have this gut feeling that Xiang might not actually be an FBI agent..."

Oh, he's certainly a member of the FBI... just the division situated on Level B90, safely concealed from prying eyes beneath all of those petty, insignificant little secrets such as the fully-operational cold fusion reactor,  the cloning facility, the wormhole to Mars, the Psyker holding pens, and the Court of Emperor Norton I, who lives to this day, the real power controlling America...!

Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says:

Heh heh heh.

I love you guys.  =)

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

Ahh young grasshopper It's time to make the FBI pay for their lack of work. Ahh payback time for the Police The chief has a plan. Payback is always a B----.

Maybe Xiang a member of the Men in Black?  Watch out of he might meuroize everybody who reads this awsome comic strip and make them forget that we ever read this awsome piece of work.

JackAce (jackace) says:

"...the fully-operational cold fusion reactor,  the cloning facility, the wormhole to Mars, the Psyker holding pens, and the Court of Emperor Norton I..."

Wouldn't all that stuff rather be in the hands of the CIA or the NSA?

"Maybe Xiang a member of the Men in Black?"

The hospital scenes in Kate's dreams remind me very much of the Manticore project in Dark Angel.

"...he might meuroize everybody who reads this awsome comic strip and make them forget that we ever read this awsome piece of work."

Cool! Then we could all read the entire comic again - for the first time!  ;)

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: That would be cool.  i wonder where Dirk gets all his idea's from anyhow?  now that is a Real Mystery.  I remember finding this on line comic by fluke and was hooked on it from the start. I was very impressed with the art, the layout, the story the charaters.  I'm still impressed.  if anything it keeps getting better and better.
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: The only other on line book that is doing really great is Dr Mcninja but it's a very close secind to this one
Nicholas Ladendorf (nilgravity) says: It's been too many pages since Kate has eaten anything (got to run with that kind of joke once you commit to it), suggestions for on the go dead animal: Beef Jerky, Slim Jims, can of Spam, microwavable mini corn dogs.
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: She's a cop she gotta have donutes. You can't go wrong with Dennys or Checkers or chuck and Cheese. Kate can beat up the mosue once the machine rips her off on her tokens
andre arnesen (hk) says:

right, might be a tad later for me to say, but i feel the need to speculate anyway.

now, it was mentioned that the cleanup of the latest scene was rather enthusiastically done, and implicated that the remains of kates last meal were scoured with the rest of the stuff.

now, some of the evidence processing will likely be dealth with by someone other than the missus who does the autopsy.

might it not be possible parts of mr doggy kibble ended up on the pavement. and wouldnt that raise a few questions

Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: translation of last panel: 'Keep the Bloody reporters hands off of this and I may not have to assign you two to your desks for a long while!'
So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Great page.
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

Awsome page

Kate does not look happy. Vince is wandering when Kate is going to snap. Remeber boys and girls The chief did say to "Keep working on your informants...quietly" Somehow I don't think tahts Kate's style.

So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Great page.
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: can't wait to see the news they are going to get from the doc.
JackAce (jackace) says:

In her analysis of the evidence, Gina could come across indices for Weird Happenings™ at any time.

And with the Gun Runner case officially out of Kate and Mike's hands, now (or at least "soon") would be quite a convenient time from a storytelling point of view...

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: Nah I'm sure Kate will find a way to get involved with the gun runner case one way or another. After all BOTH cases are connected.
Nicholas Ladendorf (nilgravity) says:

I was about to put something to be funny, but I realized there was a chance I was right, and that it would be hard to convince Dirk he didn't tell me.

I'll wait until after I see him at comic con to spoil the end. The man is deadly with a T square, and he carries it around with him for some reason. He has a sheath for it and everything.

Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says:

Lies!  Filthy lies!

I only carry it around when I expect to see you.  =]

Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says:

BTW - Reviewed by Comic Fencing:

So It Begins (soitbegins) says: I LIIIIKE the last panel.
JackAce (jackace) says:

Hair and tracks don't match the lion from the other scenes...

And based on her dream/memory, we can assume that Katewolf has probably been at Lincoln Park that night...

It is starting to look like this third killing might actually have been Katewolf, which would explain Monty Bryant's muttering (during his arrest at the precinct) about "needing to warn her" ...

Of course, it would also mean that he's too late...

Or, alternatively, there could actually be some lunatic runing around murdering folks and disguising it as animal attacks. I this case, Bryant would really just be searching for Kate and had showed up at the previous scenes because he was following the same false trail as Kate and Mike...

Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says: Mmm....Werewolves....
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: I feel like Watching ginger snaps one and two.  forget the third one
Zedd Overkill (zeddoverkill) says:

This is sort of giving me flashbacks to reading Fool Moon, the second Dresden Files book.

 Good flashbacks, too. xD

Loves me some scif-i/fantasy/mystery story. xD

But, JackAce, you do bring up some intersting points.

Eric Evans (karatejoe) says: Wooooow, she's actually taking Kate's advice! This can be good and bad!
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: this is most likely bad for Kate since the first two and last samples mor then likely won't match up
JackAce (jackace) says:

Those "soft tissue samples" wouldn't happen to include Kate's vomit from the Lincoln Park underpass scene, now would they?

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

Got to like that sub comment "bout Damned Time"

Thank god that Kate is on the side of law and order. just imange her as a Secertary, clerk, Store manager  ((well maybe that one would be okay she will beat up the shoftliters before calling the cops)) But just image her working at any other job.  WOW thats a scary though

I just relized that Mike is the quiet one out of the two as well.. How weird

Cindy Franklin (ryouko) says: Mike probably has to be quiet.  He has to keep alert, just in case he needs to stop Kate from doing or saying...something.  Like listening to a ticking bomb, waiting for the slightest change in the sound.
Bob Ulus (bobulus) says: I really shift back and forth with Mike. Sometimes I think he knows way more than he's letting on, sometimes I think he's exactly what he presents himself as, and he's just worried about his partner, what with the 'concussion' and all.
Eric Evans (karatejoe) says: Man, Kate's pissed. I hope her temper don't trigger anything in her. Wonder if they'll make the connection about her and the attacks.
Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says: Wow! She ripped through that guy like a marching band in a McDonalds and only left one hair! Rowr!!
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

Kate should take up mediation and get a whole of her zen.

Well she tossed her cookies close to the scence...She should know better.

I have a funny feeling that the FBI will intervine shortly

Cindy Franklin (ryouko) says: Two words....Anger Management.  And my friends say I'm short-tempered.
So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Calm down, Kate!
So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Who knows WERE the answer lies... (heh heh heh)
JackAce (jackace) says: The way Kate's riled up right now, she might just go ahead and lift up her shirt to show off the lack of a bullet wound in her stomach next...
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

Nah she's just dedicated to her work. Personally  I think she's a Hybrid not a full fledge furry. Poor Mike he'sr eally going to need to Mediatate tonight.

Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: Damnit, all, Dirk, you can't just dump a page THIS interesting on us and expect us to wait a week! That's cruel and unusual punishment, that is!
Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says:

Actually, you may have to wait a little more than a week.  I just got back from Comic-Con last night, and I have MAJOR client project to do this week before I take off for Connecticon this weekend.  So, I won't get to working on the next page until I'm home next Monday.

Look for the next page either Wednesday or Thursday next week.

more soon!

Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says:

Now THATS cruel and unusual punishment...

Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: I'm already hurting. Why, dirk, why? :P
Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says:

Yes.  I am so cruel.

Alas, if I could only slow time down this week...

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

You can always catch Lucky and take his Lucky Charms and use his new hourshape glass marshmallow and control time Dirk.  But unforantally he's too damn hard to catch. cursed marshmellow power

Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: well you could always figure out how to distill quintessence ... but that requires the ability to collapse small portions of time to begin with.
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: You know we're desperate once we start discussing corporate mascots and outlandish theories as potential solutions to a webcomic delay.
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: So true that is. So true that is... But are we not allowed to try and solve problems such as this to help Dirk out?
Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says:

Brace yourselves, folks.  I'm afraid this week has been far crazier than I'd planned.  No way I'm going to get this page up before I leave for Otakon tomorrow morning.

However, as a consolation prize, I'll post a few of the commissions that I've worked on at the past two cons.  We'll get back to the story next week.

Marc K (mechatron) says: Snap!
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: I am seeing some poor sap becoming Doggy Chow on this night...
JackAce (jackace) says:

Kate obviously doesn't realize this right now, but I think this is the best thing that could have happened to her.

Up until this morning she had tosplit her attention between the mutilations case, the gun runner case and her own internal mystery.

Now,all of a sudden, both of her official cases have been taken out of the picture, giving her enough spare time to come to terms with the beast within her...

And the way she's riled up right now, it's not too far fetched to assume that this beast of hers is going to make the kind of appearance that makes even Kate realize that something needs to be done about it.

Kate's friends and collegues keep trying to convince her that she needs to take her condition more seriously. They are all absolutely correct, but in a way none of them would ever imagine...

So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Great page.
Robert Evans (surllio) says: I was have expecting Kate to wolf out
Jeff Gum (sandgate) says: The upturned shot to make Kate's molars look like fangs was a nice touch.
Drgnkght (drgnkght) says: The amusing part of all this is that Kate can go straight to a doctor right now and get a letter stating that there is absolutely nothing wrong with her. At all... Not even a scratch.
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: that is pretty funny there Drgnkght... I so would want to see the look on Gina's face in that case lol
Robert Evans (surllio) says: She seems to be calming down.  Sort of.  Can't wait for the next page.
So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Great page!
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: I think she almost looks like she's about to cry in all but the last panel...
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: Yeah, because in the last panel it looks like she's about to take off Mike's head. :P
Drgnkght (drgnkght) says: What to do? What to do? Kate must know something is seriously wrong by now; constant nightmares, black outs, déjà vu at crime scenes, hallucinations. She's got problems. (Not to mention she needs a new rug. That's got to be bothering her.) But if she goes to see a doctor they're going to want to check her gunshot wound. Which of course is now impossibly gone. I'm going to go out on a (admittedly sturdy) limb and say she probably doesn't trust doctors right now either if her dreams are any indication of her state of mind.
Robert Evans (surllio) says: Interesting.  She has definately calmed down.  Great page.  I want to see where this leads.
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

I'm sure Kate will take matters into her own hands.  it's Kate after all ;)

Kita Ross (lithium_delusions) says: It's interesting how Mike manages to effectively calm her down with one simple question.  Kate's quite stressed and not entirely by her "nightmares."  And yet it seems like the right words from Mike have an immediate effect.  Will this figure later in the story?
So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Great page!
JackAce (jackace) says:

News of Kate's mysterious "friend" finally reaches Mike, and Kate is on her way out of the precinct...

Isn't it funny how important information that would make everyone's lives a lot easier always keeps missing the right persons?

And, since this may well be the last time we see her like this: I think Kate looks pretty hot in a suit. ;) Much more classy and less tom-boyish than her usual jeans-and-t-shirt look.

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

My spider Sence sences are tingling. Something real big is coing down.

I like Kate either way but I do like her more with Tom boyish looks more as well then again i'm jsut a simple mided person who looks for the inside of every person.

Robert Evans (surllio) says: This is an interesting page.  Its makes things very intriquing.
Rose white (rose-shattered) says: Why!? This suspence is KILLING me! I need to see what happens next and next and next...
jakob kiilerich (drucchi) says:

So finnaly a voice of reason in her sea of insanety.

and tell me is this comic coming out every tuesday?

JackAce (jackace) says:

is this comic coming out every tuesday?

jakob kiilerich (drucchi) says: The plot is unfolding "DUN DUN DUUUUUUNNNN"
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: Well I'm back again. Great page btw Dirk. I wonder if she'll "Smell" the Were-Lion and meander over to the cell in a few pages or not...
jakob kiilerich (drucchi) says: shes getting violent
So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Uh0h...
Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says: Oh, man! Once you bend those locker doors they're never the same afterwards. :-)
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: I think she actually put her fist throught it to boot ...
Robert Evans (surllio) says: A little peek at the wolf inside, though only a glimpse.  I'm surprised it didn't come out earlier.
JackAce (jackace) says:

But after that one outburst, she caught herself rather quickly.

And right now, there is no "Adrenaline Drive", no "Blackout" and no "Bad Dreaming" to rationalize away the fact that something strange is going on with her.

Time to face it, girl. You need help! And not the kind a doctor can give.

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: Wow that poor locker didn't see it coming. Kate Rules
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says:

Heh. That locker bent in a LOT further than it should have... ;)

Roebrt Brigham (rbrigham) says:

Two things, inthe fourth panel, she has slightly oversized canines, inthe last panel, that locker wasn't even hers...

I can just see the poor owner when they get to it.

Cindy Franklin (ryouko) says:

So who's locker do you think that will end up being?

I would love to see their face, when they see the huge hole in it.  ^_^

Kita Ross (lithium_delusions) says: Her ears were going pointy too.  Anger management anyone?
Kita Ross (lithium_delusions) says:

Don't piss Mike off.  Just don't...

Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says: Bad idea, Frankie. You should only throw off Kayser Soze lines as you leave the station. :-)
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: Mike going to go "Clint Eastwood" on everybody >:-)>
So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Hmmmmm.
Andrew Sumner (locus) says: So ... I'm guessing we're closing in on the end of Emergence now??
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: I wouldn't say that until something emerges.
jakob kiilerich (drucchi) says: Somethings Happening
Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says: I think that Kate is going to have a few more questions then answers when the guy starts talking.
So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Were could the story be going?

Sorry. ;)
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: Lets hope that Gina and Kate don't kill each other.
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: I've got to wonder if he'll actually catch up to Kate before she gets out of the station.
Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says:

Somebody's feeling the love!

(Hey, Dirk, terrific shading on the leg muscles!)

Roebrt Brigham (rbrigham) says:

What did that poor bag ever do to her?

Great artwork, as usual. Thanks.

Kita Ross (lithium_delusions) says:

One wonders if the people behind her in the last panel are ranked in order of who pissed her off the most and most recently!

Nice work!  Did you use photo references for some of those poses?

So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Whoa.
JackAce (jackace) says:

Great Page!

Is Kate really getting more muscular (i.e. starting to change...) in the last panel, or is it just that we get to see more details in the larger "zoom"?

Also I notice that inthe menagerie of faces on Kate's mind, Agent Xiang is conspiciously absent...

Robert Evans (surllio) says: Love it!  The line and detail work are superb.
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

Awsome work Dirk.

My god she's ripped as hell but her guard on that kick was lacking.  Mehh she's angry and the poor bag is going to get it.

RIP Punching bag

Ian Morrison (starstriker) says:

She's not getting any more muscular over the course of the page, that's just her muscles all tightening up at the moment of impact. Plus dramatic shading. :)

JackAce (jackace) says:

Yeah, it could be the shading...

And the added effort she puts into it, compared with the punches in panels #2 and #4...

BTW, is this the police gym, or is Kate in some kind of club?

Rose white (rose-shattered) says: Great shading! and awesome page :)
Dave Corbett (mr_dave) says:

Kate is a very healthy-looking young woman!

By-the-by, is there any chance WCN would let you put the vote buttons up near the top of the page? I keep forgetting they're down there...

Dread Lord CyberSkull (cyberskull) says: Very nice abs!
Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says: Dave Corbett (mr_dave) wrote:
"By-the-by, is there any chance WCN would let you put the vote buttons up near the top of the page? I keep forgetting they're down there..." Good point.  Let's try them up there. Glad you guys are liking it so far. more to come!
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: (insert obligatory whine about it not coming fast enough)
Drgnkght (drgnkght) says: Note the bare midriff. Mike is looking for her. He knows how her side should appear. His reaction should be most interesting indeed.
rivard scott (warhead77) says: wow. makes me wonder whats on her playlist. slayer? megadeth? pantera?
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: Eye of the Tiger, Hearts on fire, Buring feeling, Final Countdown, Redemption, Goin fly now.  Rocky 4 music at its best
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: come to think of it. i wonder if she knows Jujisitu as well. she'll make an excellent canadiate for UFC.  Wonder if Dana White is reading this
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: Which would last RIGHT up until her opponent got ripped literally limb from limb. :P
So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Uh-oh...
Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says: Somebody's processing her memories :-) And it's a full moon!! Aroooo!
Kita Ross (lithium_delusions) says: She looks like shes about three panels away from going full wolfy!  Rather hope Mike doesn't walk in right about now.
Robert Evans (surllio) says: And now the story gets REALLY interesting.
JackAce (jackace) says:

So, she is starting to change...

Whether or not we saw the first stages of this on the previous page is open for discussion...

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

Love the work:

You have to feel sorry for the poor punching bag.  Now I feel like trainning on a sparring bag right now and I'm at work : (

JackAce (jackace) says:

Hey, I just realized something:

I don't think Kate is really losing control here.

Look at what she's thinking about. Her first thought is not how she got wounded, but how the wound mysteriously dissapeared. And then, when she does think about getting wounded, she immediate moves on to how she got up and shot that punk anyway...

I think Kate's got a hunch, and now she's testing it. She's not getting angry. She's methodically driving up her adrenalin to see what happen.

Actually, it wouldn't surprize me if she had locked the gym door to make sure no one accidentally walks in on her experiment.

andre arnesen (hk) says:

on the other hand, a public building means master keys, and mike does seem to be sincere about his wish to get kate.

and youll note her midriff is bare, and that there is no sign of the bullet wound mike knows is supposed to be there.

is this when, as they say, the plot thickens further

JackAce (jackace) says:

Of course, that's assuming that this gym is actually a part of the police precinct.

We don't know how much time has gone by sinceKate and Mike parted ways. In the time Mike visited holding cells, Kate could have left the precinct entirely and gone to club down the block.

And once Kate's out of the police building, Mike has no way of knowing where to look for her.

In this scenario, I'd expect Kate's cellphone to start ringing rather soon; either on the next page, or at the end of another dream/flashback/blackout sequence...

Cindy Franklin (ryouko) says: Uh oh.  I sure as hell wouldn't want to walk into the room right then.  But I wonder what's going to interupt it.  At the emotional state she's in, I doubt she'll calm down on her own.   Something going to bring her to a halt, or make her explode.
Roebrt Brigham (rbrigham) says: If she keeps this up, she's either going to destroy the bag with her fists or with her teeth. Either way, I'm on pins and needles having to wait for the next page. As always, the artwork is excellent.
Roebrt Brigham (rbrigham) says:

Question, did anybody notice her ears besides me? They seem to be changing shape also...

angelo portal (survivor2721) says:

I did; she like the hulk insted turning green like david banner when is mad And she looks like transforming into werewolf when she is mad.

Lv the comic!!

Kita Ross (lithium_delusions) says:

It's dead, Kate!

 Poor innocent punching bag.

I like the  subtle transition from "going furry" back to normal!

Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says:

first obesrvation: Going furry increases physical abilities quite a bit apparently...

second observation: I think she is stuck with mini claws now...

third observation: she looks really  Hot after a workout like that!

So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Uh-oh...
JackAce (jackace) says:

Note how quickly Kate got out of her fighting rage again..?

And how she is not freaking out..?

I tell you, this was a test, and she was at least half expecting a result like this!

And now, she is a very big step loser to getting able to control her powers.

@Drakanor: So, you like sweaty girls, huh? ;) I still prefer her in a suit...

Robert Evans (surllio) says: good stuff as always
Dread Lord CyberSkull (cyberskull) says: Now that it's down, why don't you grab it's throat in your teeth and shake it? ;p
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

Way to kill the Bag Kate.  Bruce Lee would be proud.

 Rest In Peace Punching Bag.

Kate looks great either way, Suit nor no suit. I wouldn't mind going a few rounds with her myself.  Man Mike is going to be one lucky guy.

andre arnesen (hk) says:

whoh, looks like she either snapped the chain or broke it free of the roof...

thattll raise eyebrows

JackAce (jackace) says:

She broke the chain.

You can see the broken link in Panel 2 (well, actually, outside of Panel 2...)

Thomas Bodmer (keiger) says:

It's dead Kate, dead.

I almost wanna put bets on when she figures it out, becuase it aint gonna happen just yet, and also who will figure it out, her or mike...

Drakanor Dream (drakanor_dream) says:

As a note: I have a weird like of women who can beat the stuffing out of me with out trying lol

So how do you think she'll explain the fact that she both popped a hole in the bag and broke the chain holding the bag up?

Cindy Franklin (ryouko) says: Okay, I was wrong.  She did manage to calm down on her own. Still, good thing no one else came into the room.
Scott Lake (captaincyanide) says: I'm loving this comic. I love the illustration. The art work reminds me alot of Dominion: Tank Police and a hint of Fastal Fury. not a bad thing at all. The story is getting better wiht every panel.
JackAce (jackace) says:

So how do you think she'll explain the fact that she both popped a hole in the bag and broke the chain holding the bag up?

Poor equipment maintenance..?

Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says: You think she's sexy now? Wait till she starts shedding on your sofa!! :-)
Kevlar Illuminati (kevlarilluminati) says:

"So how do you think she'll explain the fact that she both popped a hole in the bag and broke the chain holding the bag up?"

The bag splitting is easily explained, the chain though, I've come up with only two explainations.

 1) The artist got overly excited while illustrating the Yaa! and in his excited state the page he was working on slipped 90' degrees and he failed to notice till he had completed the bag :P

 2) The prop guy in the rafters who is holding on to the bag, was frightened by the furocious shout, to the state of paralysis, losing all control of bodily function and the chain. (might also explain why Kate is wet in the subsequent panels) :P

but seriously, been following the comic for a while now, must say it is the most consistently brilliant comic in my awareness.

Excellent job Mr Tiede, would love to see more!

Yancarlo Ramsey (tallinu) says:

Tsk tsk. Occam's razor, peope! :D

Clearly the bag is on a quick-release mechanism set for a certain level of force... If someone manages to hit it hard enough that it might cause serious damage to the bag or the support, better for the bag to fall off than for the person to maybe get hurt, right?

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says:

Same here I use to have the best sparring parnter around when I train. WE both literally would go full contact without our sparring gear. WE were good friends as well. It was  funny cause we never dated each other but every time we sparred it was like the best of times.  She moved away now.

Man reading this comic brings back great memories ironically Thanks Dirk

angelo portal (survivor2721) says:

I though go full wolfy when she is mad.and even bruce banner hulk out he mad too.poor bag could not stand a chance kate is in the house. Way to go kate

nice comic mr.Tiede

Joshua Franks (twilightbourne) says: It seems to me that her hair is longer than it was.. of course its probbaly just in disarray.
Kita Ross (lithium_delusions) says:

I have a feeling Kate might have said something there if Mike hadn't interrupted her.

Love all the background detail, Dirk.  Really nicely done!

So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Nice page.
Tiff Hudson (tiff_hudson) says: Cool! Glass block windows!
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: Does Mike ever have a grin on his face.  I still say he knows more than what he is letting on
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says:

I think that's a "we're finally getting somewhere on this damned messed-up case" grin, actually.

Cindy Franklin (ryouko) says:

Umm...sure Mike, it was faulty equipment.  If it helps you sleep more soundly.

BTW, Hey Dirk!  You aren't going to be at Youma Con this weekend?  Bummer, man!

Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says:

Heh heh heh.

Yeah, sorry that I can't make it there this year.  Perhaps I'll see you at Ohayocon?

JackAce (jackace) says:

I expect Bryant will want to Kate alone and without surveillance...

And by now Kate has enough clues to guess that might actually be a good idea...

Asj Johnson (asjjohnson) says:

JackAce, I had a similar idea. Only, I thought maybe he'd say something that only Kate would know about, like something about the dreams, and she'd be the one to ask to talk alone. (although... I somehow doubt she'd go along with my imagination...)

Cindy Franklin (ryouko) says: Yeah, I'll be at Ohayocon.  Have my pre-reg and a room reserved.  ^_^
Robert Evans (surllio) says: Awesome.  Can she control her anger?
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: Uh Oh things don't look good for the chief......  I wonder how many comic panels it would take before Kate goes nuts on the Chief
andre arnesen (hk) says:

wonder if the doc will think the lack of additional holes odd

S.E. Lokipolyazatu (skruluce) says: Ed: I wonder how long it takes the chief from having a coronary just dealing with Kate's shenanigans. By shenanigans, of course, I mean getting herself maimed, getting pissed off, and turning into a werewolf. >>;
So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Hmmmmm...
Kita Ross (lithium_delusions) says: Oh, good.  Kate has calmed down and now she's thinking instead of just reacting.
Roebrt Brigham (rbrigham) says: This is progressing rather niceely, I'm waiting for the time that Kate comes to grip with thte wolf within.
Robert Evans (surllio) says: Intersting.
Ian Morrison (starstriker) says: ....and Kate takes a bold step towards the metaphorical plot landmine! :)
Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: Oh wow didn't see that one coming from Kate.  Though Mike would of call the FBI.  Young grasshopper learned very well
Kyllein MacKellerann (kyllein) says:

This is getting interesting.  One wonders what Kate would do if she managed to shift to her wolf-body and still keep her human mind?  For certain, the crooks would move out of town, if nothing else!

How would YOU like a Wolfy Kate to grab your lapels and growl; "So how come you haven't paid this parking ticket?"  Methinks, it would be paid pronto!

Antonio Beltran (sumosnipe) says: Sweet! You're back! And the work just keeps getting better.
Dirk Tiede (dirktiede) says:

A bit of news -- you might want to check out tonight's episode of 'HEROES'.

Details in the blog post below.

Ed Paradis (zudarkness) says: firwst though that normally goes through people's head:  How does he know her? *  My first thought was is that Cell strong enough to hold him.  considering the fact he jumped over a very tall fence this should be no problem to him
Robert Evans (surllio) says: Oh my.  He looks like he is starting to wolf out.
Andrew Sumner (locus) says: yep, incisors, claws ...
Roebrt Brigham (rbrigham) says: This doesn't bode well for the boys in blue.
Cindy Franklin (ryouko) says: Dun Dun Duuuuuuuuun..    I think some rather bad news is going to be coming very soon for Kate.
Kyllein MacKellerann (kyllein) says:

"Yeah, Kathryn McAllister.  The girl two cots down from you at the Base.  She's a cop now."

And that has nothing to do with what YOU are charged with, Charlie!
