Is it wrong of me that when I was looking for a theme for the month of my birthday, I automatically leapt to "mortality?"
Clocks, calendars, and other such fixtures in our homes are odd things. On the one hand, you would think a species as concerned with its own mortality as ours wouldn't want to remind itself of the slow, inexorable march of time. On the other hand, we've got to know what day it is so that we can get to work on time and remember the day we're going to see Hannah Montana in concert. Um, I mean, um, Slayer. They still play live, right?
This illustration, by the way, was adapted from an old book of Mother Goose nursery rhymes.
