Joey Manley on Supernatural Law by Batton Lash

Batton Lash brings his acclaimed indie comic book series to the web, with brand new stories in living color! Or, um, sometimes undead color.
Supernatural Law creator Batton Lash has long been a fixture in the indie comics scene, well-known for advocating the idea of a "new mainstream" -- that is, comics in non-superhero genres that, in any other medium, would be considered mainstream entertainment.

The Supernatural Law webcomic is just one more way to reach out to a new audience, for this cartoonist whose whole career seems to have been built around the idea of reaching out to new audiences for comics.

These aren't reprints of his acclaimed trade paperbacks, by the way: it's all-new, all-original material designed specifically with the web in mind.

What's more, it's just gorgeous. There's something about Lash's inking style and storytelling rhythm that reminds me of vintage Archive Comics, back when they were good, particularly the adventure stories they did with the characters in the late sixties and early seventies. Since those comics were my own original doorway into the wonderful mansion of comics, I'm particularly vulnerable to that sort of thing.

But maybe you will be, too. ... read it now!

tjgeezer on Berserker: The Wild Hunt Writte by Jens H. Altmann, Illustrated by Harris O'Malley
This strip hasn't been updated in too long a time. I hope it reawakens.
Berserker has every sign of moving into a very compelling story realm where there are almost unlimited possibilities, and the art is in a high-contrast, dramatic black and white style the perfectly fits the story. It wasn't updated during February 2007 but I am keeping it bookmarked in hopes the artist intends to come back soon. Good story-based strip! ... read it now!

Cavan Scott on All Miracles Have A Price Written and illustrated by Harris O'Malley

The Bride of Frankenstein receives a hard-hitting 21st Century facelift.
I've always been a sucker for Frankenstein, due in part for the way the monster itself has been portrayed in the various versions of Shelley's classic tale. 'The Bride', the first part of 'All Miracles Have A Price' shows the pathos and sensitivity towards a man-made creature that started way back in 1931 as Boris Karloff reached piteously for the sunlight. Here we have a modern take on the seemingly age-old tale, focusing on a newly resurrected female creature who finds herself abandoned from the moment she first draws breath, plagued by memories that seem as alien as the world she finds herself in. Harris O'Malley brings us a most pathetic central character who breaks your heart even though she only utters one world. Harsh, horrific and highly disturbing it may be, but The Bride's journey will move you. If it doesn't you deserve to be on the mad professor's slab yourself. ... read it now!
