Scholars debate as to whether le pingouink actually exhibited continuity, if what happened in one story affected the ones that came after it. It can be argued that this strip is a direct continuation of the idea that the family should be doing more things together. Others say each strip should be taken entirely on its own and that any story has been the mere hack job of later editors trying to make an artistic masterpiece fit some bourgeuois notion of "how a story is told." These arguments can get quite fierce and are great fun at parties.
