After graduating from Yale Law School, Rick Murphy went back to school and earned a masters degree in forensic pathology. From there Murphy joined the Federal Bureau of Investigations as one of its last human recruits. Murphy has distinguished himself with scholarly papers on criminal psychology in the Numen population. Recently, the federal government has initiated a campaign to reintroduce human law enforcement officers into the police force. Murphy was reassigned to the New Freetown Police Department as a homicide detective. After the murder of Mister Zenith, Murphy finds himself the lead investigator on a case that no one else wants to touch and the object of racism from the some of the Numen police officers with whom he must now work.
