Sydney Rouse ||    Forum ·  External Homepage ·

Intelligent insanity is an oxymoron. However, in the case of digital cartoonist Sydney Rouse, it makes perfect sense. In the summer of 2006, while temporarily free of her academic shackles, the spunky “Tanuki” - or “Raccoon” for those who do not speak Japanese - began drawing a silly band of characters who invaded her imagination when she wasn’t looking. Readers enjoy a playful (often bizarre) blend of classic movies, science fiction, horror, anime, and video games. Sydney suggests a weird family, sugar, caffeine, and sleep deprivation are the main sources of her inspiration. A hodgepodge of ironic sarcasm, her hero is Darth Vader (who lead her to her position as a USC Digital Arts & Animation student) and favorite Japanese saying is “moichido otosu!” Whenever asked to think “outside the box, Sydney proclaims (in classic Matrix style): “There is no box!”
