I hate when right wingers are backed into a corner with logic so they end the conversation. All my right-wing friends do this. Fox News does this. They want so bad to be right. Honestly, I would rather be proven wrong so I can be on the side of right. When we went to war in Iraq, I actually trusted the Bush administration thinking they knew something I didn't. When we went to war, I hoped and prayed that we were on the side of the good guys. I could only cope by playing The Gulf War Song by Moxy Fruvous, and the lyrics made me feel worse. "So we read and we watched all the 'specially selected news And we learned so much more 'bout the good guys Won't you stand by the flag? Was the question unasked Won't you join in and fight with the allies?....Fighters for Texaco, fighters for Power, Fighters for longer turns in the shower"
I cryed myself to sleep that night, shattered. As that song played in my CD player on repeat. That song was written about the first Gulf War and was released in 1993. When I discovered Fruvous I had no clue how prophetic the line "What makes a person so poisonous righteous that they'd think less of anyone who just disagrees?" Seeing Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and the other blow-hards on FOX news basically stick their fingers in their ears and yell "LALALALALA!!! I'M NOT LISTENING!" to anyone who disagreed or worse still lob attack that belittled that person. When the right-wing talking heads get pushed into a logical place in a debate, they leave.
I think the worse one is where they walk up to you, say something that is assinine and walk away so you can't refute them. I sell a T Shirt. I sell this shirt in Virginia (Once I even set up shop in North Carolina, but that is a different story.) I was at Ravencon, a great con that thanks to Bob McDonald, is during "Confederate History Month." Now when Gov. McDonald signed the resolution, he left out how the Civil War affected the Union and the Slaves. I made this design to protest this "celebration." I had several people come up and tell me that I am wrong, with stupid talking points that I could easily defeat with logic and history. But instead of giving me a chance to say anything, they turn on their heel and walk away.
I used this cutting and running tactic in my comic because it is just what chicken Republicans do. Keith's responce is inspired from CJ Terrell's confrontation with Robin Vos.
There is one more way Republicans hide. It is by locking out the media, even if doing so is illegal. Arthur Kohl-Riggs, the maker of the video listed above, has had some problems as citizen journalist. He has been banned from filming in the Wisconsin State Capitol. This is a new one on me, but it fits with this pattern. Republicans are scared because their arguments can't hold water. Maybe that's why they are afraid of governing, they are wrong all the time...
