First off, today is my youngest daughter's 4th birthday. She is very excited because she can finally be bigger today. Because you don't grow until your birthday.
Maybe I shouldn't watch Big with her anymore...
To my angry rant!
It's hard to get angry on my kid's birthday.
Whether you agree with a Supreme Court decision or not, it's hard not to feel passionate about your issue. Citizen's United was the worst decision since Dred Scott. However, in both cases there was nothing in the constitution to oppose the decision. But Abraham Lincoln did give us the 13th and 14th amendments which overturned the decision. We have not yet had the amendment to overturn Citizen's United, but that will happen!
When you have a bad decision how can you judge a bad judicial call? Look at what the outcome is. I don't mean the decision itself but how it changes or effects people. When Dred Scott happened, that was one of the many ( almost all involving slavery) reasons we ended up in the Civil War. Citizen's United put our democracy up for sale and allowed someone as vile as Scott Walker to survive his recall. Like Dred Scott, Citizen's United will tear our country apart. Don't believe me? Fine, listen to someone who is more eloquent than me.
Now we have the decision on health care. A flawed piece of legislation that can begin to help the people of our nation. It will allow people to save on health care, it is a first step of many to move from a profit based industry to a health based one. The Affordable Care Act is not the solution, but a first step in a long journey to improve this nation. Unlike Dred Scott or Citizen's United, the outcome is for the best, and will start helping people in 2 years.
But for some people, that is not good enough. For those people, they have to act like it's the end of the world. Whether it is the wishy washy Mitt Romney or the shrill Sarah Palin, they are going crazy trying to tell us that we need to repeal. They have no replacement plan to implement. Their corporate masters will prevent them from doing that.
And then there is Congressman Todd Akin of Missurori, who is also running for the Senate, who had to add a layer of racism into what he said.
A servant leader? Asking the black guy to be a servant? From a former slave state, to boot! And before that he lied to his constituents about how it's a government take over of health care. As long as they turn it over to the doctors, then that wouldn't be such a bad thing. And then, AND THEN he starts quoting the Bible! WHICH HE HAS OBVIOUSLY NEVER READ BEFORE IN HIS LIFE! Because it was Jesus who commanded his disiples to go out and heal the sick. He wants to repeal it so we never fix anything?
This man is appalling.
Luke 10: 1-9 is Jesus's command to go out. He said "After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them...Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’"
He is not a Christian. He is a liar and a racist. And he hates Jesus. Jesus who endorsed such liberal positions of progressive taxation, anti-corporatism, and wanting to take care of the sick and helping out others in need. Who preached against wealth and money and said that poverty will lead you to heaven. Jesus was a liberal, and this is what Todd Akin said about liberals. “At the heart of liberalism, really, is a hatred for God and a belief that government should replace God.”
But then again, this is what modern conservatism looks like.
