burning beets. bdb

still sitting in the kitchen i turn my attention to the stove where i guess i was cooking some rice and beets. generally there was always a pot with lamb in it sitting on the parents' stove there, ready to be warmed up for lunch, dinner or breakfast.

this reminds of a project i did back in 1996, when i was doing all kinds of different little projects: each time i made a pot of rice in my ratty old rice pot, i would draw the pot. i was living on very little income at that point, and this was just about every other meal! but it was pleasing, doing endless variations on a very simple subject.

i was going to write "i'm not sure what was going on with the coil in the second panel" but now i see that in the first panel there is a hole where the one coil has been removed. whew!

and the BDB suggest i was listening to badly drawn boy's hour of bewilderbeast album, which would have lent the scene a slightly melancholy rainy day feel.
