The spring recipients for the Xeric grant have been announced and I'm one of them! If you're not familiar with The Xeric Foundation, it's a grant set up by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle co-creator Peter Laird, to help out indy comic creators. I loved the Ninja Turtles growing up along with just about every other kid in America. I liked the mainstream stuff but I really loved the originals. It was just straight up cool. I loved the creativity and adventure aspect of it. My favorite story line was probably when the turtles discovered the TCRI building and the "krangs" then got transported to the Triceraton world. The return of Shredder storyline was right up there too. I've still got the First Graphic Novel color reprints on my book shelf. So it's nice to have this connection with that. And really what a wonderful way for Peter Laird to give back to the community that brought him such phenomenal success. Comic Karma. So what does this mean for me? A lot of work. I'll be collecting the first 4 issues in to a full color trade paper back. It will be digest size. I've got a number of pages to color, corrections to make and designing/laying out the book. Plus working with the printer and I'm soliciting through Diamond. Oh and marketing too. So I'll be pretty busy for awhile. I didn't want to completely stop updating Haunted on the site but it looks like I am going to put it on hold for a bit. And for all my friends, here is a sneak peak at the cover. |
