Oops, sorry about Tuesday. I was over doing the podcast and accidentally forgot to make a comic.
Played around a little with the drawing here again. Consistency, thy name is not Steve.
The folks at Perpetual Entertainment put up a screenshot (which I noticed via Kotaku) for their in-development Star Trek online game. It looks alright (as much as one can tell from a screenshot), though nothing like the original conceptual art that had been released earlier. Now, granted, it's at least a year from being released, so who knows what the final setup will look like, so one can't say too much about the final form of a game from one pre-beta screenie. Of course, the Internet being what it is, that won't stop some folks. Unlike the scenario portrayed in today's strip, the comparisons between WoW and the still-incubating Trek MMO were drawn by the forum denizens.
Now, granted, these folks are sort of a self-selecting crowd, and many were remarkably non-fanatical in their responses. Nonetheless, there was some dissent centered around how "cartoony" the graphics look. I have to say, with some amount of reluctance, that I agree with these opinions. If EVE-Online can manage to make detailed ships look badass and have the performance/gameplay portions be excellent, I think the devs team at Perpetual (whom I imagine are infinitely better funded than the CCP folks) can figure something out. And who knows, maybe that's the plan and this is just very preliminary. I personally can do without WoW in Space, but you can't argue with the revenue potential of that particular MMO model.
Oh, and Perpetual? LCARS. Comeon, that should be a no-brainer.
