This one took far longer than it should have, entirely due to the fact that my regular style is ill-suited to the great black horror that is Darth Vader. My thin lines, hatched shadows and positive space were completely unfit to portray his majestic field of darkness, so I had to learn how to draw all over again.

Along the way, I learned that highlights are fun to do, that the classic scene between Vader and Luke was not at all how I remembered it, that Vader has an enormous codpiece which I have no desire to draw, that it's really easy for me to get bogged down in details forever, and that my copy of Windows 7 has some kind of vendetta against wireless internet.

It was all worth it to bring this image to life. I've been wanting to do this one for years.
