So, something artistically new to me: the poster on the wall was created by inverting the colors using Gimp, the free program I use for editing. I'm pretty pleased with how it looks on my screen!
When it comes to laundry, bigger is better! Do a full load, but not over or under capacity! And, it's always nice to share laundry with a friend or family member (unless that family member is a little brother-- brothers are notorious for smelling bad!)
And yes, after lots of research, the consensus is that 90% of washing machine energy goes to heating water ( http://planetgreen.discovery.com/home-garden/beat-the-heat-wash-in-cold.html -- short and sweet article by Jasmin Malik Chua, of whom I am a huge fan!) Some of you may be disbelievers in the cold-wash-only, but that's how they do it in Japan, and that's how I've been doing it since 2001 when I first lived there as an exchange student. According to this site: http://home.howstuffworks.com/green-laundry-cleaning-tips.htm , a cold rinse is just as effective as a warm or hot rinse, so at least switch to the cold rinse cycle!
I had a dream that Rachel Maddow (who kicked ass week with Bill Nye the Science guy on how the whole "SnOw-MG is proof that Global Warming is a Myth" debacle; you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYvk1OtI0H0 ) hired me to work for her. If only! If you're RM, or if you'd like to hire me, or if you have comments or concerns, or questions about laundry, or if you disagree with something I've said, please send me an e-mail at reardon (dot) melanie (at) gmail.com!
Til next week, amigos!
