Darryl Hughes (thedeeman) says: NEWS: All good things must come to an end. And after six years, a print comic fiasco (SMASH! Comics), an ill fated subscription start up (Creature Feature Comics), and various adventures in webcomics, GAAK is beginning the final leg of it's "War of the Worlds" world tour with this page, the first of the final ten installments that will bring the saga of Zach, Jemmy, Plato, Chubs, the kooky maniacal Gakk, paranoid reactionary General Patton, his long suffering sidekick Col. Schultz, and all the other GAAK cast of characters to an end. I'm not saying goodbye yet, because Monique and I still have a bunch more GAAK for you. But knowing that it's coming to an end after all we've been through is starting to get to me a little. But, like I said, we've still got some more GAAK for you before the end. So, until then--Same GAAK time, same GAAK channel! LOL! Dee - GAAK writer dude
Steve Ford (sford) says: Hi.  I'm a long-time reader but not much of a comment-leaver.  Gaak has been a load of fun!  I like a good story, and you've got a great one.  Thanks for Gaak!
Darryl Hughes (thedeeman) says: Hi, Steve. Thanks for the kind words. Like you, I don't think many GAAK fans are comment leavers. Hey, folks are busy and sometimes you just don't have the time. It's understandable. But Monique and I never once felt unappreciated because you guys keep coming back to read our little alien invasion adventure and actions speak MUCH louder than words. :) And, like you Steve, I hope that the other GAAK fans have enjoyed the ride as much as Monique and I have enjoyed bringing it to you. You are VERY WELCOME for GAAK! LOL! :) Dee - GAAK writer dude
Darryl Hughes (thedeeman) says: NEWS: Sorry guys but we're a little behind on this end. So, the new GAAK page will be delayed until monday afternoon/evening so PLEASE check back then. And again, sorry about that. Dee - GAAK writer dude
Darryl Hughes (thedeeman) says: NEWS: As you may or may not know, Monique and I have started to submit proposals to comicbook/graphic novel publishers AND book publishers to try and find a publisher for GAAK once it's completed and the series ends in August. I'll let you know how the search goes. Dee - GAAK writer dude
Darryl Hughes (thedeeman) says: NEWS: On the submissions front, here's who we've gotten submissions out to so far and are waiting to hear from: Fantagraphics, Drawn and Quarterly, First Second Books, Penny Farthing, and several indy publishers. We've been turned down so far by Image, Image/Shadowline, and Slave Labor Graphics. Beng turned down by Image is kinda funny and ironic because there's a post on the Image message board right now posted by Image publisher Erik Larsen titled "Why don't kids read comics?" Maybe publishing somethng more "kid friendly" like GAAK would help with that problem. God knows comics like Mouse Guard has prove that kids want something more then just hugely muscled, caped heroes to read about. More variety in what comic publishers publish will bring kids back to comics. God knows Xtreme this, and Ultimate that's aren't working. Just a thought. Anyway GAAKsters, I'll keep you updated on how our quest for publication goes. Until next time. Dee - GAAK writer dude
Darryl Hughes (thedeeman) says: NEWS: Update on the publisher search. IDW passed on GAAK. Saying that they weren't looking to publish any new creator-owned projects for the next year or so because they'll be concentrating on their licensed projects. With Transformers blowing up like it is, and 30 days of Night coming out soon, that's understandable. And IDW publisher Chris Ryall was really cool too. Oh, got a line on an agent who handles comic creators last week. We'll see where that leads. Because most literary agents don't seem to realize that there is a current boom in book publishers publishing GN's nowadays. So, like I said, we'll see where (if anywhere) it leads. I'll let you know. So GAAKsters--The search goes on! LOL! Dee - GAAK writer dude
Darryl Hughes (thedeeman) says: Is that? Could it be? It looks like--? I tell ya, you just can't keep a good bad guy down. LOL! Dee - GAAK writer dude
Darryl Hughes (thedeeman) says: NEWS: Just got the big "Not to our taste--But keep up the good work. Comicbook publishing is a difficult business to break into..." from Fantagraphics. They're pretty alternative in hat they publish, so I really wasn't expecting them to pick us up. But I had to try. First Second Books, Drawn and Quarterly, and Penny Farthing Press are still who we're still waiting on now. But honestly, my gut tells me that we're just gonna have to self publish GAAK ourselves. One way or the other, I'll keep you posted, GAAKsters. Dee - GAAK writer dude
Darryl Hughes (thedeeman) says: NEWS: Well, here's the latest on the "getting published" front, GAAKsters. First Second Books turned us down. So we're down to our last time outstanding submissions (Penny Farthing Press and Metro Media UK) between us and self publishing GAAK ourselves. I don't get why publishers are passing on GAAK, frankly. But then again every publisher out there passed on Harry Potter too. And to quote aneditor from Bloomsbury childrens Books (who took a chance and did publish Harry Potter), "It's kind of like turning down the Beatles, isn't it?". Well, GAAK isn't exactly the Beatles. The Rolling Stones--Maybe! LOL! As always, I'll let you know how the search goes. Until next tie, GAAKsters. Dee - GAAK writer dude
Darryl Hughes (thedeeman) says: GAAK'S ALL, FOLKS. What starte in August 2001 with the question, "Hey, Big Dee? Have you ever thought about doing a comic like those cool old creature feature movies we used to watch?" ends 6 years later with a pretty damned good monsters-run-amok alien invasion adventure if I do say so myself. And I do. LOL! Monique and I thank everyone who's read, enjoyed, and supported us and GAAK over the last 6 years. We've decided to re-run GAAK from the beginning while we get everything ready to be published (fingers crossed) or self publish the complete GAAK graphic novel in the next few weeks. So, thank you all again very much. It's been one hell of a ride. Dee - GAAK writer dude
Monique MacNaughton (moniquem) says: OK everyone, if you notice chapters and pages becoming inaccesible, it's because I'm arranging for the archive to rerun pages, and that means shifting stuff around. The last pages will remain as they are until everything else is finished. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Monique MacNaughton (moniquem) says:

OK, I just pulled out and rescheduled the first chapter here. If you want to read the first part, please go to our Drunk Duck mirror.
