RSS Feeds for Coydog's Den

What are RSS Feeds?

RSS feeds are stripped-down, machine-readable up-to-the-minute update notifications for online content. You can use RSS feeds in many different ways. For example, you can install an RSS Aggregator application on your personal computer to receive immediate notification of new content. If you're using Firefox, you can add our RSS feeds to your Live Bookmarks folder. If you maintain a website or a LiveJournal, you can stick our RSS feeds onto your own pages using any number of free RSS interpreters meant for inclusion in websites (LiveJournal's is built into your account already). If you read blogs through an online aggregator like Bloglines, you can add your favorite webcomics to your daily trawl using our RSS feeds, as well.

Our feeds come in several flavors -- the cartoonists themselves choose which kinds of feeds to make available to you. Here's a quick rundown:

Full Content: with a full content feed, you can actually read your favorite WCN webcomics within your aggregator of choice -- the actual comic will just appear in the aggregator's reading pane (assuming that aggregator supports full content feeds -- if it doesn't, the feed will simply show you updates and headlines). BlogLines and LiveJournal support full content feeds, as do many desktop aggregators.

Headline Only: headline-only feeds only contain a headline and a link. They are useful for letting you know the instant a comic on WCN updates, but you will still have to click over to the creator's WCN site to read the comic.

Mixed: since our creators get to decide whether they're going to offer a full-content feed or a headline-only feed, our All of WCN feed is mixed, meaning that when certain comics update, you will see a full content feed, and when others update, you will see only a headline and a link -- it's up to the creators.

Additionally, our creators have the option of attaching their latest page or strip as an enclosure to their RSS feed. This is useful if you are using iPodder, PSP Media Manager, or some other enclosure-aware RSS aggregator -- especially if you plan to download your comics for reading on a portable device like a cellphone, an iPod or a Sony Playstation Portable.

Each of the above feeds contains update notifications of comics from Coydog's Den. The list becomes less inclusive as you go down the page -- so, for example, the All of WCN feed at the top of the page contains everything contained within all feeds listed below it (plus a lot more). There is little need to subscribe to any other feed, if you are subscribed to the All of WCN feed. Likewise, the Coydog's Den feed will update whenever any comic series or one-shot within the Coydog's Den part of WCN updates. Alternately, you can subscribe to individual webcomics series from within Coydog's Den -- this is the least inclusive kind of feed. If a new series or one-shot debuts within Coydog's Den, you will not be made aware of it. You will only see update notifications of the one, existing series you have subscribed to.

The RSS feed URL's are presented as links, as you may have noticed. Unless you have installed a browser helper application that automatically adds RSS feeds to your aggregator, you should not click these links. Instead, you should copy the URL of your selected feed into your clipboard, then paste it into the part of your aggregator where you add feed subscriptions.
