Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do you create your comics?
A: Well I start by sketching them out on any surface that will stop moving. Then I do a final sketch in my sketch book. I then scan the images into my computer at a ridiculous resolution. Using Gimp 2.0 I ink and then color the comics using multiple layers. For Owen comics I then import pictures of the ISU Campus as backgrounds. Once the comic is finished I shrink the image down and compress the layers until I get an image about 800 pixels wide. Then the comic is done.
Q: Are your comics based on real life?
A: Some are, most aren't. Occasionally I will do a comic from real life but most of the time I am inspired by something and then take it to outrageous lengths. It usually ends up being <1% based on a real life situation.
Q: I saw in one of your comics that you work at the Helpdesk is that true?
Q: Will you do comics based on the questions you get at work?
A: Most likely not. I would not want to hurt anyone's feelings.
Q: I hate your comics.
A: Hey, that's not a question. If you don't like my work, I would recommend you take a look at other sites at webcomics nation, I'm sure you will find something that will appeal to you. Besides, I still have a day job.
Q: Why wasn't comic X funny?
A: I found it funny. I'm sorry you didn't think it was funny. Maybe you will like the next one.
Q: How far ahead do you have comics done?
A: Sometimes 2-4 weeks, sometimes 10 seconds. It all depends on what the rest of my week is like. I do take updates very seriously though and have pulled an all-nighter to get the comics up on time.
Q: Why "Owen"?
A: Owen Hall was the dorm in which I spent my first days here on campus. Since the comic is about ISU it seemed an appropriate name.
Q: I found a spelling/grammar mistake; would you like to know about it?
A: Sure, I am no English major. If you point out an error I will fix it at my next opportunity. Thanks for the heads up!
Q: The spelling/grammar error is REALLY bugging me. Could you fix it now?
A: No, I will fix it when I can. I most likely need sleep, or food, right now.
