Welcome to the first appearence of Annie's mother, Marie. She's a writer of both fantasy and romance. I went the Disney route and had her be a single mother. I dunno why that's so common, perhaps becauseone parent is easier to get out of the way than two.

 I wonder why its usually the mother that's always the single parent. i'm sure there could be some crap about sexism or mother figures or whatever, but my reason was basically to create a character that answers the question "what happens when a kid like Annie grows up to have kids themselves?" also, my brain seem to deafault to female characters, I really ought to try and even the gender ratio a bit...
