This cartoon got birthed in a fun way. I was talking to Mean Jean, graphic artist extraordinaire, at work. We were discussing politics in general and Hillary Clinton's anticipated announcement to run for President in 2008 in particular. Jean was making a point, waving her arms in her usual Italianlike way. "She'll throw her hat into the ring very soon, I'm sure," she said. I gasped. "I see the cartoon!" I yelled. "It's a circle of light with men's hats, and Hillary's hat comes floating down into it." Jean waved her arms wildly. "It's coming down in a shaft of light!" she said. "Yes!" I said, and that was that. What I like about this one is the obvious difference between the hats. Hillary's hat is all pink, with flowers, because she's a woman. How refreshing to live in a time when a woman will become President. I've always known that I would live to see it, always. Hillary's the first woman who's supremely qualified to be President. She has the law career, the hands on Senatorial experience, the connections, the wisdom, and the courage to lead. And the time is most definitely right for this essential change of direction. When it comes down to it, we're all independent voters. We can independently make the collective decision to shatter the ultimate glass ceiling. Oh, now I'm all excited again.
