This is the first Rock Garden cartoon, drawn in 1994. I was helping my mom after her stroke, and she was driving me crazy with her compulsive talking. "What would it take for you to be quiet for ten minutes?" I asked. Her answer surprised me. "Draw me some of your little people," she said, "and I'll be quiet." Years before, I had drawn constantly, but I hadn't picked up a pen for a long time. Desperate for peace and quiet, I drew this cartoon, which reflected our real life situation. Mom was quiet for four hours, so after that, I drew every day!
