Good question, Glen. I priced out a cheap-ish Dell (even their low-end stuff outshadows the dinosaur that just died) at about $750.
Basically, I just need a decent enough machine to handle Photoshop and iTunes running simultaneously without locking up (yep, it was that bad).
But for now I have a PC to use from a friend who I'm housesitting for over the holidays. And I'm happy to report that some folks are already donating towards the new computer - THANK YOU!

p.s.: no merch or trades of BOTG available, Glen. That's part of the low profile I'm having to keep for legal reasons. But who knows what we might see once the whole comic is done?

You may want to check outlet.dell.com - you can get a refurbished or 'scratch and dent' computer there for half the price that you mentioned. I have gotten both a refurbished laptop and a s&d desktop from there (it was more of a scuff than a scratch) and both have worked fine for years.

Just sent you this via email, but just in case, you might want to check out TigerDirect.com 1) Refurbished computers. Some of these are off-lease, some are new, open-box systems that were returned for one reason or another. 2) New, non-refurbed sub-$500 systems: Watch out for the super-cheap deals that come without an operating system. You need to tack the price of Windows on top of the list price. Hope this helps!
