Carol is the last surviving member of the Black Tigers, an order of ancient assassins dedicated to killing "Destiny Vortexes", people who have an adverse effect on reality. People like Cosmo, for instance. Carol would personally rather not kill anyone, but she's being egged on by her sense of familial duty, and also her father, who can be surprisingly persuasive for a dead guy.
