Adam Prosser (prankster) says:
Check it! All the background characters in this strip have popped up again at some point...especially in panel #4. It's Brandina! Though she didn't have a name yet.
Adam Prosser (prankster) says:
I'm totally going to redo that first panel. The perspective is terrible.
I am going to reveal more information about Professor Kincaid someday. There's a bit more about him in the bonus material for the first print collection, if that ever comes out...
Adam Prosser (prankster) says:
This strip has been edited a bit--the last panel was totally redrawn, since it was the first appearance of Dean Wienerman, and the original looked like boiled crap. And Woodlouse's segue line wasn't as good.
Adam Prosser (prankster) says:
And hey, look, it's Fatima in panel three! Man, I really have this thing planned out, don't I?
Adam Prosser (prankster) says:
Long-time, observant readers will note that I altered Miss Leitgarter's appearance. Originally she was more of a blonde bimbo type, but I decided that a) there were already too many blonde bombshells in the strip, b) Wienerman wouldn't have a secretary who looked like that (the man is seriously undersexed), and c) there's a neat thematic thing I can do with her when I finally reveal her backstory. Which I will, once again, someday.
It's important to note that the Dean has no special powers or abilities beyond the fact that he's the Dean of a very weird school, is uptight, and is very ambitious. Even the mad scientist/Bond villain thing he's got going on comes from henchley, which is why I gave him all the typical "supervillain" signifiers--eyepatch, ponytail, etc. But of course Henchley would be totally harmless if he didn't have Wienerman for a boss.
Again with the future supporting characters making cameo appearances. Man, it's pretty amazing how many cast members I introduced in these first 13 strips (and yet Norma, Oona and Hester take ages to arrive, and Nick doesn't even appear--except as a statue--until Book Two!)
Aside from Mo, the rainy guy in the background is Thor Dankmeyer, who's going to be more and more significant as we continue onwards--he actually has a tiny subplot of his own coming up in Book Two. The Raggedy-Ann girl is one of a handful of characters I dreamed up to populate the background and who may or may not have any bearing on the main story.
