Raina was a relatively normal and kind of shy kid. She was horsing around with some friends one evening, and fell on some hard asphalt, resulting in the loss of her two front teeth. Suddenly, Raina was more than shy--she became incredibly self-conscious and felt like the world was staring at her damaged mouth.

She had to endure about 5 years of dental work before she could consider herself "normal" again, and in that time, she rode the usual ups and downs of teenage agony, always filtered through the weirdness of her smile.
