Well readers, here we are! You've reached the end of the online archive of SMILE.
That's right...I'm (sadly) ceasing online posting of SMILE pages from here on out, because SMILE is coming to print!!
SMILE: A Dental Drama is going to be published as a complete graphic novel by Scholastic/Graphix, the same publisher who has been putting out my Baby-sitters Club graphic novel adaptations for the past 3 years. I am very, very excited about this! The book will be full-color, and will clock in at about 220 pages--so you will be able to read the conclusion to my dental story, once it's in print. I'll also be expanding some of the existing material. The current archives have been edited slightly, and everything you see here is going to stay as it is. Readers will continue to be able to read about the beginnings of my dental drama online, and I'll continue to post news and updates about the forthcoming book right here on this page.
I am very grateful to my readers and supporters over the years, as SMILE has been posted week by week and so many of you have read along, sent emails relating to my story, given me guest art and comics, written me kind letters, and told me that the comic has inspired them. What started out as a way for me to deal with an accident from my past has ballooned into something very special and personal. Thank you so much for this opportunity.
So! New readers to the series can start here.
If you are interested in regular updates from me about SMILE and the other things I'm working on, you can find me in several places:
You can go to the Smile-dedicated page on my website for a book synopsis, a preview of the color pages, and to read a bunch of wonderful reviews I've gotten! While you're there, check out the rest of my site, which I've given a pretty thorough update to.
I also made a VIDEO TRAILER for the book!! You can watch it right here:
Thanks to Alison Wilgus, who directed, and Harry and the Potters, who provided the song stylings. :)
I am literally going to be all over the US this year promoting the book, and you can check goRaina.com for my tour schedule and updates. From here on out, all updated content will appear on my website, but anyone new to SMILE can read 14 installments right here on the web. The first chapter starts here! Thanks for reading!
