LUMMOX by Dan Mazur

The dictionary defines "lummox" as "an awkward, clumsy or stupid person," but the hero of this comic is... well, actually, the directionary might have it about right. LUMMOX: kind of sad, kind of funny... and definitely black and white.

Joel Rivers's Review of LUMMOX
Dan Mazur's sweet dufus is the only guy who seems to know which end is up in this superhero satire with heart
I met Dan at APE, we were tabling not far from eachother, we exchanged comics, but I was so busy that I had to wait until I got home to read Lummox. when I finally did, I truly enjoyed it. The main character's design is right out of the old Popeye cartoons, i.e. Alice the Goon, and his sad resignation over his fate is a statement on modern angst. The scratchy, cross-hatched art has a home-made, underground feel; refreshing in this modern, photoshoped age.
Truth is, we are all Lummoxes (Lummoxi??) and doubt ourselves from time to time, and it's irony that propels us into the spotlight against all odds. That's why this comic works.  ... read it now!

...'s Review of LUMMOX
Like the title character, I accidentally fell into LUMMOX, and am glad that I haven't been able to get out!
When Dan Mazur moved back to Boston and asked to trade mini comics with me, I was more excited about getting my work into someone else's hands than I was about finding something new to love. Well, imagine my surprise when I walked away from that lunch with the fist two issues of LUMMOX, in print. I was hooked, and I can't stop pestering Dan Mazur for more of this bumbling "hero."

Unlike the traditional heroes of superhero comics, LUMMOX isn't trying to save anyone, except maybe himself. But his clumsiness and dimwitted logic land him in the center of a media circus fit for Paris Hilton. And what happens when the beautiful reporter keeps reappearing in LUMMOX's life? You'll have to read the whole series to find out! ... read it now!
