Before I talk about Eugene, I want to talk about Stan Yan's "Wang." In Stan's modern incarnation of Eugene, his features are streamlined, his body emaciated, and his eyes bulging in shock and with good reason. Although a number of Eugene's misfortunes are not displayed explicitly, they often imply a sexual deviancy beyond description. When I first read the "Wang," I found myself rearing from disbelief at the turn of events in the characters' lives. Oh, and it's a pretty damn funny read as well.
Now let's talk about the past. "The Pre-History of the Wang" is just that. You see Stan's early concept of the character Eugene as a superhero parody. Even in its early days, you can spot an eye of a keen satirist. He's refurbished these older strips for the web with some very nice coloring. This isn't your annoying artist's revisionist history either (think Star Wars), but a simple enhancement of an already fun ride.
