Gerry Swanson's Review of Soup
Ray and Steven are single-celled organisms in the primordial ooze. They're just two buddies trying to make it in a world of various amoeba, algae, bacteria, and microbes. "Soup" is a hunorous look at the origins of life.
One of the nice things about this comic is how the art is taken to a level beyond the typical gag strip. Although the characters are simple (the comic often reminds me of Gary Larson's Farside) they are very nicely rendered in full grayscale glory. Also worth noting are the panels. All the panels are circular, and connected together by thick lines. Not only do the lines guide the reader through what could be a confusing layout, they also make the comic seem to be shaped like a molecule, fitting in nicely with the microscopic theme. The comic is frequently hilarious and always enjoyable, even when it occasionally skews to the sophomoric side of things. I'm looking forward to seeing more! ... read it now!
