If you haven't checked out the Vanguard you should. The MacNut (AKA Victor Daniel) takes two well explored themes, and combines them into something kind of new. It's a super hero space opera. Upon first glance, Victor's artwork isn't as polished as other artist you might find in the superhero genre, but he does visually get his point across. And if you look closely, you'll see his work improving from page to page, which can be a fun process to watch. Underneath all of that, you'll find a well thought out story that has only scraped the tip of the iceberg. His outer space set action sequences have a larger than life appeal, with powerful heroes fighting against shrewd villains. Victor takes risk with his characters. How many writers are willing to have their main hero essentially lose in the first issue? This is the case with Thenurion, the powerful captain of the Vanguard, who gets out strategized by villainous slave traders. This underscores just how dangerous Victor's world can be. It's a fun read that updates like clockwork, and there is still so much more to explore about these characters and the universe they inhabit.
