Pure filth?
I'm glad you liked the monkey, though.

Yeah, I'm feeling a little bad about the filth comment and so, well, there's plenty of humor that's not filth so I guess 'pure' is a bit of a misnomer.
I just realized. This one also has something in common artistically with Tales From the Bog, a small press print book from a few years back.

have you read all of his comics? it may not be for some but for me it achieves what a web comic is supposed to do-- it makes me laugh and i don't care what path it had to take to get there. instead of tearing his comic down you should read it again, maybe you could learn something.

Yep. -already read 'em again and revised upwards, but only a little. Maybe I'm letting the art get in the way, but I'm not all that into penis jokes and the swearing doesn't really make me giggle. The N word just ain't doin' it for me either. I also got my fill of laughs over soap dropping in about fifth grade. Let's see, what else, retard jokes, rape jokes. Sure there are several funny moments. It's just not a strip I'm all that interested in. The monkey bit did make me giggle and I noted that. I realize there are people who like this style and I mentioned that too. I don't.
I've never claimed my reviews of submitted strips would hold up under any sort of scrutiny. The way I see it, I put in about half an hour digging through the archives, more than an hour drawing and scanning the strip and probably another hour between coloring, lettering, uploading, and writing the little post that people, today, aren't all that pleased with.
Like I told my students when they got pissed off at the Jackson Pollack hanging in the MET, they had an emotional response to the work and that's a pretty cool thing even if the response wasn't postive.
So I appreciate the comments and maintain my right to my own. I took another look and while I found a little more to be amused by, it's still not my thing. I'm thinking people on the internet are too used to preaching to the choir. Because there are so many strips, sites... and so few review opportunities on the net, we've become used to postive reviews because reviewers, for the most part, don't want to waste their time reviewing strips they don't like. I notice this bias. Hell, I'm guilty of it. That's why I set up this whole process. I'll have the boys take a look at ANY comic. I'll like some. I'll hate some but most will fall somewhere in between. So I'll keep dancing even though I suck at it. Thanks for watching me trip and fall, er, and for sticking your foot out there once in a while to see what happens. That said, someone just submitted a strip for review called "Penis."

i think what your doing is awesome, i'm all for people who contribute to the webcomic community, i just wanted to push for a closer look because i think that 'pig related' is a talented chap. As i dove into you site some more i realized that you reviewed alot of artists that i interact with-- Ribald Youth, Acid Keg and Surreal U all participated in a comic contest i had last year [http://worstepisodeever.com/arena.php] and Pig Related, Droop, and Bigger than Cheeses are all members of my webcomic forum community [http://worstforumever.com] .... oh and yes....... also 'Penis.'
good luck.

don't even bother reviewing "penis." you'll waste an hour of your life in which you could be doing better things... like taking a dump.

All comers man. Them's the rules. And anyway, if people want us to take a look at a different kind of strip, get the creator to submit it.
In fact, after next week, submissions are all that'll keep this strip going 'cause I'm moving things in a new direction, but the boys'll be back for any reviews 'cause I still enjoy doing them. I've gotten a bit sick of the five panel, talking head format otherwise. It's time to branch out again, visually and narratively.

You're comment on the newspaper look is so embarrassing, you didn't even get that is an awesome Velvet underground reference! So that means that you don't know their awesome music or at least not the the album featuring "what goes on" and the great song "pale blue eyes".
Maybe you don't know as much as you think you do mister!

I suck at the internet.

I never claimed to know a whole lot about anything. In my review of Acid Keg, I missed dozens of references. It's one of the perils of reviewing on-line material for free. I only have so much time I can devote to a strip until I need to work on the paying stuff. Should I be embarrassed by missing a reference or interested in checking out the album and music? You see, one of my problems with reviews is that readers assume they're the end of the conversation. I prefer to think of them as the beginning. That's why I invite the comments.
As for the music, I'm checking it out now. I can listen to just about any music I want any time I want with Rhapsody. Joey Manley did a blog entry on the service about a year ago and I signed up. I never got into stealing music with Napster. As a cartoonist who sells his work on-line, it seemed hypocritical. For $9.99 a month, I have just about all the music I'd ever need. They haven't signed with the Beatles and a few other main-stream bands but most of the rest are on there (I blew my money on those a couple decades ago). A quick look: they've got twelve Velvet Underground albums for me to dig through. It looks like Rhapsody hasn't yet licensed a bunch of their live albums. I've got "What Goes On" playing as I write and "Pale Blue Eyes" is cued up. Sorry, I can't see the newspaper reference still as the pictures of album covers are too small to get much out of. I'm not really into criticizing people for not having heard music so I took a bit of umbrage with you the claim that I should be embarrased. Shit, man, isn't that what the internet's about, cool bits an' all. -and yeah, The Velvet Underground is some pretty lines.
All told, I'm pretty sure I know about as much as I claim to which isn't all that much.

Wow you took me disturbingly serious. Which is nice, because there can't be enough Velvet Fans, but ehm 12 albums? They have 4, well actually 5 but the fifth one is without Lou Reed and sucks. Anyway of course it's wrong to download music. My whole V.U. and Lou Reed collection is total retail baby. Pig related also has some awesome bootlegs.
Anyway I didn't exacly know what to write so I thought I'd just nail you on THAT. But it's a good thing you started listening to V.U. a real good thing.

I had actually heard a bunch of this stuff, but my tastes generally run both sides of The Velvet Underground. I'm big into the roots of Jazz and Blues, the Reverend Gary Davis, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker... On the other hand, I'm a hack guitarist with a penchant for the simplest of blues, Flamenco and rythym guitar. I just can't make up my mind which I want to get better at.
If you're a web-comic fan and into pre-punk, punk... you've got to get a copy of the latest issue of Colonia. The letters col. is a ten page overview of his obsession with punk, garage rock... In comination with Rhapsody, I've been using it as a sort of menu for diving into some new stuff, new to me anyway.
Oh, and there are indeed twelve VE albums available on Rhapsody. They include:
Bootleg Series Volume 1: The Quine Tapes
20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection...
Peel Slowly And See (Box Set)
Live MCMXCIII (2 CD)
Another View
VU
1969: Velvet Underground Live Vol. 1
1969: Velvet Underground Live Vol. 2
The Velvet Underground
White Light/White Heat
The Velvet Underground & Nico
The Velvet Underground & Nico: Deluxe Edition
If you're looking to buy they've got another fifteen or so, but the twelve above are all included in the $9.99 a month.
To me this kind of subscription service is going to kick satellite radio in the long-run. I get to listen to whatever I want, whenever I want. Plus they've got the radio stations that the sattelite services are so proud of. Now if I could just get the damn internet pumped into my car for cheap.

Well yeah, but when you buy the box you get a book and Andy Warhol art on the cover. Oh and when I said four Albums, I meant thet The V.U. really made only 4 studio albums (with Lou Reed that is.) I sugest you listen to those before you tackle bootlegs and live albums.
Enyoy, it's about the best damn music ever made.
