Friday - January 21, 2005:

It's been nearly twenty years since I've had interest in any Manga title. The style seems to have a life of its own on the web. I remember when "Dirty Pair" was about the only non-Japanese creative team to move books in the manga style. I was never all that impressed by their interpretation. The eyes were always a little too big and the edges a little too thick. The backgrounds were a little too simplified. I wasn't buying it.

On the internet, there's this healthy blur of artistic style and storytelling going on. I can't count myself a big fan, but I admire at least some of the work (Remen Mythology comes to mind). In print, nearly everything seems to have taken a turn towards both Japanese animation and manga.

-a bit of winding down in Today's strip. Two left to the end.
