So I have all of these sketches sitting on my hard drive, experiments from the past few months. I'm not sure any of it's worth posting, but it might make for interesting conversation. I'll be digging through and posting what makes the cut as I find it. I've also got several sketchbooks worth of ink and pencils that I'll scan, post and comment on if this format seems like it's working. I remember a couple of years ago, one of the more popular series of posts I did involved posting and discussing a bunch of old work so maybe this too will spark some interest.
The Thing and Human Torch actually end up being a nice starting place. I'm nearly out of the superhero business, the reading and the drawing, but there's some internal wiring that will probably linger for decades. When I'm playing with bright colors, they're too often the result. The first FF Galactus story back in the sixties was actually my introduction to superheroes. I bought them coverless for a nickel each in the mid-seventies. Little did I know I was reading some of the height of the medium - Lee and Kirby on Galactusthe Silver Surfer followed by the Inhumans.
Of course, I'd be at least a little more comfortable if it were Crumb, Deitch, Bagge, McCay, Clowes, Seth, Herriman or King who showing their faces in my aimless sketching, and they do from time to time, but of course there are a couple of decades worth of superhero conditioning in the way.
Thanks for your comments. The more there are, the more often I'll update.
