August 27, 2008: Somehow, these got out of order. We spent the summer of 2006 wandering around Vietnam and Cambodia in backpacks. We weren't quite hikers, taking public transpost from city to city, but once we tumbled off each bus and train, there always seemed to be at least a couple of miles to hike before we found a hostel or hotel. We started in Saigon and worked our way North after flying over to Cambodia for a few days.

With humidity high and temperatures higher, we had to stop constantly to rest, usually at one of the thousands of street stalls. A few cents bought us a seat and a small glass of fresh beer (brewed that day). While we sat, Saigon came to us. Here, I caught a pickpocket at work, stealing not from the backpacking tourists but from another fruit carrier.
