In the field of magazine cartoons, not all of your gag ideas will be selected for inclusion. PATTY-CAKE has been appearing for almost ten years now in the pages of Nick Magazine. Some of the gags that Nick did not buy, I finished up and ran in Patty's own comic. Some I even parcelled out to other cartoonists to draw. Others have remained in the 'slush file', never finished, never seen until now. Here's a few that didn't make it into Nick. Editor Chris Duffy (Check out his WCN pages!) agonizes through sleepless nights over which to buy and how to break it to me gently about those he doesn't. I weep, dry my eyes, then finish up the ones Chris is now counting on me to deliver to you, the reader. This also gives a behind the scenes peek at the creative process. This is pretty much how all Patty-Cake material looks in its first draft, when it's all loose pencils and scribbled dialogue.
