Smithson Thus Far... ·

Shaenon: Yeah, so this is how I spent my time at the Stumptown Comics Fest a couple of weekends back: drawing covers for all the Hot Goblin Brotherhood books that have been mentioned by title. Most of the designs were suggested by my good friend Pancha Diaz, for which a thousand thanks.

...I'm sorry.

Channing: This is apparently Opposite Day where people apologize for things that are totally great.

Jared Anderson (the_shrike) says:

Those would totally go beside the books on rocket engine design and the history of nuclear weapons on my "Bookshelf of awesome things to make people nervous".

Eric Burns (ericburns) says: So I've been working on a high fantasy novel, skewing YA coming of ageish. I totally have hot goblins in it. I blame you two.
sprrwhwk (sprrwhwk) says:

Ooh, it's a stereotypical urban fantasy cover which has a *man* in the "back to the camera" role.  Well, unless Book XIV of the Hot Goblin Brotherhood Saga introduces hot *lesbian* goblin sex, which wouldn't be unlikely, though, umm, the Brotherhood may need to find a new name.  I suggest The Hot Goblin Cabal or The Order of the Hot Goblins.  Nevertheless, I prefer the original interpretation, and all he needs is a weapon to complete the classic urban fantasy cover look -- back to the camera, cut off at the neck, lower-back tattoo, skimpy clothing, dramatic-looking weapon.

Kay Gilbert (kaygilbert) says:

General question: A few days ago, Vicka Corey said that Tigerlily is now on the cast page.  So cool, but when I click on the Cast link, no she isn't.  ¿Que pasa?

Shaenon Garrity (shaenongarrity) says:

Kay--Try refreshing your cache.
Kenneth Tyssen (thekenneth) says:

No, I can't see Tigerlily on the cast page, either.

Carl Fishman (carlfishman) says:

You've got to hit the "cast" tab on the comic's main page.  For some reason the "cast" link here on the discussion page links to an inferior cast listing.  (Which lacks Tigerlily.)

Carl Fishman (carlfishman) says:

Oh, and I just noticed; Artie's on that main cast page now as well!  Cue loud squees from some of the other fans!

Jeffrey Channing Wells (channing) says: Sorry, folks, I hadn't noticed the cast page update. I'll try and fix the WCN version soon.
vicka corey (drbrain) says:

i squee'd over artie, but figured y'all had heard enoguh outta me already!

artie and tigerlily couldn't be more different in character. i hope that tip isn't going to just be blown away by everybody black from now on.  (though i would like to see the adorable bus worker from narbonic get her due... :)

@shaenon, those are some totally hawt goblins :)

Ed Gedeon (eddurd) says:

(TUNE: "Paperback Writer", The Beatles)

Book o' Hot Goblins ... Goblins ... Goblins ...

Hey, Sweetheart, give a call to Unity,
I just got a hold of Volume XXIII ...
It's entitled "Goblin On A Hot Tin Roof",
It's the latest volume in the series
Of the Book o' Hot Goblins ...
Book o' Hot Goblins!

It's the steamy story of a goblin guy
Who ensnares a human woman, by and by,
It's an allegory of our modern times
And they have hot sex ev'ry chapter
In the Book o' Hot Goblins ...
Book o' Hot Goblins!

Brian Petery (ugwump) says:

Nhuurr...  I'm reminded of the Gor series; you've already got your audience, now pander to them.

I can't find my copy of "Bimbos of the Death Sun" but there's this great line: "He wasn't sure if he'd written fourteen Runewind books or had written one book fourteen times."

Joe Windham (tojo102) says:

I see the guy in the third panel has the ears of an elf, but where are the goblins?

Wayne (wayne) says:

Yay!  Bimbos of the Death Sun!  I have it and the sequel!

Wayne (wayne) says:

I just have to post some additional (potential) goblin titles:

Goblinder: The Quickening
Goblintrek: The Undiscovered Countr
The Goblin Purple
Driving Miss Goblin
The Goblinator: Rise of the Goblins
The Beverly Hillgoblins

llearch n'n'daCorna (llearch) says:

in #XIV, is that a very large tramp stamp on his back?

Brian Petery (ugwump) says:

@Wayne: Wikipedia says Zombies of the Gene Pool is a loosely based sequel.  First I've heard of it was today.  (Turns in fanboy badge and shuffles away.)

Andrew Kunz (ampersand888) says:

"A Goblin in the Hand is Worth Two in the Bushes."

So It Begins (soitbegins) says: Lingerie!
