COMPARISON: LatiBlueBoy vs. VolksMSDBoy vs. Angell-Studio Girl

BJD Comparison

Disclaimer: This comparison post contains doll nudity for the purpose of a thorough comparison, and is in no way sexual or meant to be erotic. If this bothers you, please do not continue.

Specs

Tim is a LatiBlue Boy Rei on the A-type body, Elliott is a Volks Hewitt II MSD Long-Legged Boy, and Kendall is a Angell-Studio F-Nicety Vera girl. They are 46 cm, 44 cm, and 43 cm tall respectively.

Resin

Please refer to the LatiBlue vs. Volks MSD comparison for their resin difference. The Vera that we have is URETHANE normal skin-- not French resin. We specifically asked for urethane instead of the French resin, and they emailed us back with confirmation. Thus we do not know what their French resin is like-- but despite the material, their resin colors should be the same as they had the same categories for resin color. The Angell-Studio urethane normal is more yellow than Volks. Their heads are lighter than the body, for some reason. So the body is a pretty good match for Volks, but the heads are not a good match for Volks. It doesn't match Lati at all, but appears relatively doable.

Please note the material, because French resin is more matte and has a stronger tooth to it-- which results in better posing. Vera's posing as a urethane doll is less than satisfactory. Though she is capable of holding many nice poses, her joints are basically useless and her knee joints are hell. Other than that, the urethane is nice but extremely smooth. Not shiny, though. Just almost as smooth as our very, very old Volks MSD.

Her breasts are the only things that are blushed. We had ordered during the promotion period, but did not get any of the promotional gifts (free face-up along with a goody bag).

Posing

It went hand and hand with the resin material, so please refer to that section for the posing information on the F-Nicety.

Side-to-side comparison shows that the F-Nicety is not skinnier than the Volks when it comes to profile-- she has a very deep waist, though. That's where the steep difference in their comparison comes from. Standing her is, well, a bitch. The knee construction is annoying and finicky, and there's little to no friction in her joints. The one who poses the best is the LatiBlue.

I just realized yesterday that the LatiBlue's butt is clenched. :) Anyways, the one with the least amount of detail in the back is the F-Nicety. Her torso joint is cut right under the ribs, so it's a little high. It's extremely slippery and has no room for subtle movements. Lots of "snapping," and it's bitten me many times. Ow.

By the way, the F-Nicety is about a centimeter taller than the Volks. Which means the Volks measurements are wrong...? I've measured him, and he's more of a 42 cm even though he's supposed to be 44 cm. It's kind of frustrating. Anyways, she has the second longest legs, but the shortest torso. Her lower leg is about the same length of the LatiBlue's-- his thighs are just longer.

Another view. Note how she slouches to the left. That's from loose stringing. I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to string her, since the S-hooks in her feet are... are strange.

Who slouches better? The LatiBlue can not slouch, so he wasn't included here. The F-Nicety slouches the best, and the Volks can't... really slouch unless he's sueded or wired.

GAPING HOLE. She doesn't have the extra piece of resin in her torso joint that constrict the elastic for better posability-- which is something most MSDs with a torso joint have.

I aligned them at the shoulders so you can see how long their torsos are.

Knee and arm joints from the back. The F-Nicety's knees are best described as... knobby? Her legs also like to twist inwards. The knee construction isn't terribly pretty and it looks like she's always kind of crouching-- it's worse on the F-Nicety boys.

Volks MSD foot vs. F-Nicety foot.

LatiBlue foot vs. F-Nicety foot. They're very similar, just the F-nicety foot is smaller.

Hands. Her fingers are about as thin as the LatiBlue's. The Volks hands are starting to look like bananas!

No palm detail on the F-Nicety, actually.

Her fingernails are nice and pointy, and her hand isn't as thin as the LatiBlue's. By the way, the LatiBlue would not touch her hand. It was kind of weird. I ended up having to rotate him and all this other crap to get him to force his arm out. Useless information, but kind of fun. Maybe Tim's scared of girls? Oh wait, he is. That's canon in comicverse-- before OYL. Gah.

Kneeling! They all kneel really nicely, with the double-joints making the LatiBlue the most stable. Being super floppy, the F-Nicety was a big of a struggle.

She's still kind of leaning.

Different kind of knee construction.

Weird looking! Kind of jagged and pointy. I don't think she could kneel in pants, due to this construction.

Ooh double-joints. I forgot to do a swarrico pose, by the way. They can all do it, and the F-Nicety does it well due to her inward-turning legs and floppiness. She did it many times by accident and nearly knocked over the other dolls. :( By the by, it's not that I don't like her. She's cute. She's just frustrating to pose.

Feet aligned! Sort... of.

Another close-up.

The LatiBlue's arm is about the same length as the F-Nicety's. His is a little longer, but just barely.

Headswap! Did I mention we had TWO Veras? Yeah, that made this kind of easy. So, left to right: LatiBlue Rei head on F-Nicety body, Vera head on LatiBlue body, Volks Hewitt head on F-Nicety body, and Vera head on Volks body. The knot for the F-Niceties is really, really weird. There are two thick knots, which made it impossible to pull the s-hook through the LatiBlue's neckhole. This could be solved with LESS KNOTS, and maybe thinner elastic.

The Vera head won't go on the LatiBlue head at all beacuse the neck-joint is too big, and the O-ring is too big to go through the neckhole. The Volks head fit nicely, but was a little loose. It looks kind of bobble-headed at first, but you get used to it. The Vera head fits the Volks, but since it's lighter than it's own body-- yeah. Resin color is off.

Tim makes a surprisingly nice girl. You can see that the floppiness leads to some very nice poses, but it's definitely not safe to leave these dolls standing. Their standing ability is just too damn shoddy.

The resin difference isn't too bad in real life, but these saturated photos make it look really bad. As a note, these pictures are really yellow because I started taking the pictures in early evening and didn't adjust the white balance. The first photo on this page is the best picture of their resin differences, and as you can see there it's not half-bad.

Delicate sitting poses. :) They can also lean back on their elbows, which is really cool.

Leaning forward.

Elliott makes... an interesting girl...

More masculine poses! It looks pretty nice. So now there are three versions of Elliott! Fat (normal) Elliott, abtastic (LatiBlue) Elliott, and creepy girl (F-Nicety) Elliott.

Tim in the back.

The power of focus!

He looks so... maternal?

I, uh, wouldn't suggest doing this either. They have other resin colors by the way, but I know nothing about them. Anyways, thanks again! Bye!
