At this time, Riftwatcher was still supposed to take place in the modern day, but now it was a little more important to me. Important enough to try and distinguish Kuro as a non-fan-created character, and give him a name. He was still more Nightcrawler-esque than his current gorgoylish version, but it was a start.

 

I made an attempt to colour this, and it came out horrendous. The symbol on the back of his jacket is the Japanese kanji for 'black', which in noun form is 'kuro'. I thought I was so clever back then.
