Welcome to Bustoutodds.com, or more specifically, the Bustout Odds production blog.
Bustout Odds is a new comic coming later in 2007 from Tim Demeter, the editor of Clickwheel.net (the iPod comic site, as well as home to digital material from UK comic’s publisher 2000AD) and GraphicSmash.com (ModernTales’ action-focused anthology site) as well as a comic creator, currently involved in several projects both in print and online.
Tim Demeter, incidentally, is me.
Bustout Odds is a comic I’ve been working for several months now from one point of view, and many years from another. It stars a gambler/thief , who lives outside of Las Vegas in a ghost town referred to as Bustout Town. This is a ghost town of the future though, and is, in fact, the Las Vegas we know today, with a new Vegas being built nearby in the available spans of desert, while Bustout Town was fenced off and left to rot.
This may sound familiar to my longtime readers, and I will go further into what’s going on here in this very blog, but to you new readers, don’t you worry about it. Bustout Odds, while an evolution of things I’ve been doing, is not just a "great jumping on point" to prior work, it's a starting point to something new.
Regardless, Bustout Odds will be packed with wanton gambling and criminal hijinks from its lead character in a tone a tad lighter than many crime dramas. (If you like crime noir mixed with off-the-wall humor, this is the place for you.) It will also host a upporting cast of hitmen, femme fatales, bruisers, babes, cops and robbers, all with just a little spin to them you may not quite expect from your average crime thriller. Sometimes the stories are going to be longer and epic, sometimes they’ll be quick and dirty. I’m going to shake it up as often as possible and try to offer as much variety for your time as I can.
Bustout Odds will not be distributed online by conventional means, as it will not be an ongoing webcomic. Instead, Bustout Odds will be a full color comic released in weekly portions both online and via the iTunes Store, but neither until an arc is finished on my end. This means larger gaps between stories, but I also hope it makes for a more coherent reading experience than going one page at a time. There’s no need to worry about forgetting to check for the next story either because by subscribing to the Bustout Odds RSS feed, email list or subscribing to the (soon in the coming) iTunes cast, you’ll never miss a beat! I know this is a shift for a digital comic, but it's not unusal in other forms of media. Does a new Harry Potter book come out every month? Does LOST run 52 weeks a year? Nope. While I may not be J.K. Rowling or J.J. Abrams my hope is that when a new Bustout Odds story start, it will be something to be excited about, not part of a morning internet crawl. (But that’s on me to make a great comic, right?!) Despite this scheduling shift, I will still be producing almost as many pages per year as the average webcomic, in come cases more, it's just the the delivery timing that's chaning.
One thing that will remain, is that all online Bustout Odds content will be absolutely free, so come and get it.
Distribution of printed editions of Bustout Odds remains up in the air, but there will be books one way or another, and I have my eye on other forms as media as well so stay tuned to this site for updates.
To keep up to date with Bustout Odds, simply subscribe to the RSS feed, or if you prefer (or if you don’t what the heck RSS is) you can subscribe to the email list for updates.
I hope you’ll join me, I’m very excited about this project and have a lot in store for all of you. I hope you’ll join me. Before I go, here’s a promo image to get you started.

Until next time, catch some luck on the river.
The Odds-Maker, Tim Demeter
