I'm a biracial kid, so this story kind of represents me as a person.
Once, when coming back from a family funeral on my dad's side, I heard a story about an old lady who knew old-time cures for things like warts. Nobody called it hoodoo, but it was understood that certain people understood certain things. I like that idea of the supernatural coexisting beside the straight world.
My other starting point for this piece was the idea of mashing up African-American folklore with elements from a European fairy tale ... or maybe you'd call it a ghost story. Either way, this is my favorite thing that I've ever drawn. I hope you enjoy ... See Line Woman.
